Joan Ryan sacked as Cyprus envoy

Joan Ryan has been sacked as Labour's vice chairman and Gordon Brown's envoy to Cyprus for calling for a leadership vote.

As the Special Representative of Britain for Cyprus she recently said that the work the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot communities have to do is difficult, but not impossible.

On her last visit to the island in July, Ryan welcomed the progress achieved so far by the islands leaders.
