My wife is going to need oxygen eighteen hours a day for the next two months, when she is discharged from Paphos Hospital. There appear to be two alternatives - an oxygen tank (which will have to be collected three times a week from Paphos) or an “air concentrator”, where the oxygen is generated from the air. The air concentrator seems much more practical.

Does anyone know where we can, ideally, hire one or buy one at a reasonable cost? Any suggestions welcome, as Ann cannot leave hospital until we can source one.

The shop opposite Paphos General hospital has oxygen concentrator's for hire, but a few years ago when we went in on behalf of a friend we were told that all the hired ones were hired and we would need to buy one.
My friend ended up buying one then sold it afterwards.
It wasn't cheap I seem to remember it being around €400.
Good luck

A charity in Polis will let us have the use of their machine for as long as we need it. Ann will come home tomorrow, after the most dreadful week at Paphos General. Some lovely staff but some really need to reconsider whether they are in the right profession. The way she was treated at times was a disgrace.

Hopefully we have endured the worst, and it will now be a patient couple of months till the hole in her lung heals and the fractured ribs calm down.

Not something I would want anyone to endure but thanks for the kind words.

Thank you for that. We are now home, with air concentrator burbling quietly and Ann is enjoying a well-earned gin and tonic. Next step is to read the instructions on the nebuliser I bought this morning.

Strangely the very rude consultant who shouted at Ann was not quite like that when I visited him. Perhaps he thought that my size 8 size wife had a scrawny little husband. When this burly ex-rugby player paid him a visit, he was very quiet and polite.

Great news to hear MacManiac, I'm sure the gin and tonics are going down a storm!! Good for her! But the air concentrator is the life saver. Hallelujah!
