Anyone know where i should start on this one ?
I have been informed that I need to complete a risk assessment for the restaurant,
just another condition for licenses this year ...
any help would be great ..

I would expect official guidelines for do that ... from community stand point: earthquakes, upper floors water/sewage breaks, terrorists holding hostages inside, etc
from the business: customer's food poisoning, breaking bones on slippery floor, kitchen's fire, etc

Could it be similar to the UK's "C.O.S.H.H" regulations ( as on the 'hse.gov.uk' website ) ?
You could check this …. "http://www.hse.gov.uk/risk/casestudies/pub.htm".
If not, try the Cyprus Gov. website (or ask those who are supposed to be sent to check your business for Health & Safety … if you can find them ).

It’s very dangerous when you trip up on a tooth pick or serviette in a restaurant!!!

Risk assesment vor restaurants-my oppinion; What would you do and how would you treat re-act to Heart attack, Projectile vomiting, Kitchen Fire, Burst water pipe/flooding,Drunken aggresive customers. Etc.

I am slowly getting to grips with this , (its becoming more like the UK every day)
but if thats what they want , then they shall have it ...
and yes , it costs more money

If you look at the link I suggested, Neil, a little common sense, input of thoughts from your friends, staff & clientele and research via your computer should give you ample facts & solutions to 'what if' type of risks ... You should 'run rings around' any inspectors, before the authorities want their 'cut' for their approval.
I had to do this, in the UK, when COSHH reports were first requested years ago (including 'risks from washing-up liquid', 'how to use a screwdriver correctly' and 'the correct way to valet a vehicle') ... It drove me to distraction sometimes but presented quite a few humorous moments, too.

Niel,in any country,there are people working in the government sector that have a knack of creating their own none jobs

We all here have good opportunity to do brainstorm and pile up cases like:
- what if a snake will slip into my bar ?
- what is someone will drop a smoke grenade inside ?
- what if iPhone of my customers would start fire ? (tricky one - you can't use common fire extinguishers !)

The factory I was in during my working days had visits off the elf and safety every three months.There was two of them.Why they had to come in two,s I don't know.Without fail they always found something that had to be done to improve employee safety.One visit they wandered into the men,s canteen and men being men had put up on the walls the usual pictures of,,,,,,,well,,,,lets say semi naked ladies....Shock.horror,the elf and safety said they must come down off the walls immediately.Of course we asked the reason why..The answere "if any of the factorys employees are gay or transgender it may cause offense"
Well, at least complying with that order didn't cost the company anything.

How about this!

About five years ago I brought up the issue of myself and my colleagues requiring to carry heavy box files up and down two flights of stairs several times a day. Apart from that, there was no access to the upstairs offices for wheelchair users, those who had mobility problems or people with prams etc. etc.

The first "solution" was to purchase two trollies. The idea being that we used these trollies to wheel the box files to the top of the stairs thereafter carry them down the stairs (that was the issue in the first place!) put them on the second trolley and take them to wherever they were to go. None of this of course helped the wheelchair user etc. etc.

Then, at great expense and numerous visits from Historic Scotland officials it was eventually decided that a lift should be installed. Some three years after that process started, Hey Presto, the day came that the long awaited lift was to be commissioned, despite it looking like an Ikea wardrobe.

Wait for it, a week later it was decommissioned on health and safety grounds as it was not compliant with fire regulations, now it looks like its to be ripped out again.

In the meantime, we are STILL carrying those weighty box files and those with mobility problems STILL face their original problems.

Did the person responsible for ordering and commissioning the lift fully research the specifications and H&S requirements beforehand...or simply go for the cheapest one on offer...particularly as you say it looked like an Ikea wardrobe. Just asking.

Seems strange that any quality lift manufacturer would sell a product which wouldn't meet fire regulations.

We are still asking that question ourselves!

Being Cyprus, you will probably be fined for not having a life guard on duty.

Is that just incase the office gets flooded ?
