A responsible member of society has informed me that during a recent visit to the site, a large wild cat (he thinks a cougar) came very close to him. It was just after nightfall and in a remote area near the rest rooms (toilets).

Has anyone else witnessed any wild animals in the area.

Cougar, as in native to the Americas?

Well, at least it's house trained if you saw it going to the toilets.

Tanny

Had you been celebrating Murray's victory at Wimbledon before you went there?

I'm sceptical, not because the people who saw it were delusional with excessive heat  but if there was a cat of this size up there i'm sure most of the Cypriot gun wielding population of Paphos would be up there blasting away at any moving bush.

In the days of camera phones i'm sure someone would have got a shot of it, or is this going to turn into the Mystery Cat of the Pikni Forest.

If it is true, then be aware, as although human fatalities by this mountain lion are rare, they will attach and can be ferocious.

I have to disagree with you Spencer,in my experience so called hunting in Cyprus means the pursuit of much smaller defenceless birds and animals.

A Cougar is a mature woman who seeks out young innocent boys. Is that what was seen?

I wouldnt know anything about that Clive of payia, seems a little like pie in the sky to me.

However this animal was described as between knee and hip high, definately of a 'cat' origin (not dog), sandy coloured short fur. It was still for a period but when the torch was directly on it fled into the undergrowth. Everyone was fully sober at the time and we had heard rustling previously in the woods.

So it was dusk (bad light) you needed a torch to see it and it was in the bushes but in the split second you got a glimpse of this short haired. dog size animal you know it was not a dog but a cat and you think it was an animal which is native to America.

No spencer, not me but a fine upstanding member of society. It was cougaresque in appearance and definetely not a dog or goat. Maybe someone is aware of escaped animals or indigenous large cats to Cyprus.

So does a fine upstanding member of society have better eyesight in poor light with only a torch to see by than anyone else?

Also, if he/she couldn't identify the animal correctly only that it was "cougaresque in appearance" how can he/she say it was definitely NOT a dog.
These type of cats roam for extraordinary distances, they have some of the largest territory of any of the big cats. You think its going to stay in the postage stamp that is the Pikni Forest.

I guess the Pikni site will be crowded tonight with people hoping to catch sight of a "cougar". I just wonder what an upstanding member of the community was doing there after dark (or have I misunderstood "upstanding) Sorry if I offend.

Several years ago I was taking our dogs to the vet, waiting outside in a box was a wallaby. I felt very sorry for the poor thing, I am sure that it was confined to a small cage.

Where do you suppose mars bars come from ?? and what is the connection between a wallaby and a possible sighting of a cougar,by a short person ??

The connection is that there are more exotic animals on the island than you might think. Simples
