Any ideas guys as for some unknown reason our laptop is changing end formats on all Steve's karaoke music. They all play fine on the main computer but on the laptop loosing all the words and only the music is playing.

I know it is something to do with Vista doing it's own things, but really haven't got a clue what. Any ideas pretty please as Steve is going to go ballistic if I don't get it sorted out as he is working tomorrow night - it was alright a week or so ago, but new automatic downloads have definitely done something to it.

Depending on the file format, play them in iTunes?

I assume these are videos with subtitles? iTunes and Quicktime will read subtitles when integrated in the .avi or .mov data. Alternatively install the KLite Megacodec pack (free download) everything should play again in windoze media player then (note I am not on windoze so can not test but this is what I always did on windoze)

I know Neil, but until we can earn enough to put our savings back on an acceptable level then everything has to stay as it is, since Steve has had to buy garden equipment for maintenance so first things first.

Franky, no we use a professional karaoke programme called Siglos, can't get an answer from them as really don't know why the laptop is changing them but not the main computer. Klite megacodec pack is already installed on laptop.

If the problem only appeared since a couple of days, revert to a system snapshot Vista made some days ago, when things still did work (before windoze updates?).

Might be worth a system restore

I was going to do that, but Vista decided that the last downloads were the right restore point - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Anyway I have sorted it, by uninstalling both the programme and codec then reinstalling them, plus I've sorted the database - YIPPEE, one happy bunny tonight, a days work well done, even if I do say so myself. :D
