Is Israel part of Cyprus defensive force?

If not, then why don't they 'exercise' over their own territory, or better yet, Syria?

Cyprus airforce does not have any fast jets.

When the Turks threatened to send a warship to disrupt exploratory drilling in the Cyprus EZ, the IDF not only flew CAP over the rigs, but also flew sorties up to the edge of Turkish airspace that sent the warship scuttling back to port. The EU refused to intervene, either militarily or politically. Cyprus is not a member of NATO.

The IDF have been carrying out airstrikes on ISIS and Hezbollah targets in Syria since at least 2015, and possibly covertly since way before that.

The Turkish are also currently holding a navy and air force exercise, including 'live firing'

The armed forces of the Cyprus and Israel were conducting joint military drills on Monday in the framework of the annual cooperation program between the two countries.
The exercise – named ‘ONISILOS-Gedeon 1/2017’ – will finish on Wednesday.
The exercise, according to a statement by the Cyprus Defence Ministry, will take place “within the Nicosia FIR and the overland of the Cyprus Republic and it involves personnel and armoured vehicles of the National Guard as well as aircrafts from the Israeli Air Force.”
Meanwhile, the Cyprus government has launched a formal complaint to the UN over a Turkish military exercise taking place 30 nautical miles North West of Paphos.

I see no pictures of the jets in air, so I'm skeptical and do exercise my rights to post my opinion. As you doing.

The four of them just flew low, low LOW over Pissouri!

Three of them UNDER the approach to Paphos airport and the fourth higher (presumably over it)...

Very impressive!

There is a mobile radar tracking and aa missile control post just outside Lasa village. The jets are running up and down the valley this evening, playing chase with the ground trackers. Great fun if you like that sort of thing. Our dog hates it!

YES
Israeli fighter jets involved in a military drill with the Cyprus National Guard prompted minor panic in Paphos on Monday morning with some residents mistaking them for Turkish warplanes.
A total of 24 Israeli F-15 and F-16 fighter jets took part in scheduled Onisilos-Gedeon military exercise that saw the fighters streaming between Paphos and Stavros tis Psokas in the Troodos Mountains.
It was however the low overhead flights between the Andreas Papandreou air force base and Peyia that brought out most Paphos residents into the streets and nerves were only settled later when the Defence Ministry announced the exercise.
While the Cyprus-Israeli drills are taking place, the Turkish navy is continuing naval manoeuvres with live ammunition just 30 nautical miles south-east of Paphos and well within Cyprus territorial waters – an act which has been reported to the relevant international bodies and organisations including the United Nations by the Cyprus government.
This is the first scheduled joint military exercise held between Cyprus and Israel this year and is scheduled to finish on Wednesday.
The last few years have seen increased military cooperation and joint exercises between Israel and Cyprus within the framework closer military ties between the two countries giving the National Guard personnel much needed anti-aircraft and radar training within realistic scenarios.

As an aside Sergio, I am super impressed that you can identify the nationality of a fighter jet by the sound of its engines :clapping

Thank for photos - I see it was F-16 and F-15 models with Israeli stars. Unfortunately my attempts to identify them has been limited by nights and cloudy time, hence my mistake to differentiate by engine's sound.
