Taken from the cyprus mail ..
http://cyprus-mail.com/2015/12/28/2015-a-record-year-for-tourism/

Cyprus saw a record number of tourist arrivals during the summer, deputy general director of the Cyprus Tourist Organisation, Annita Demetriades, said on Monday.

She added that in November, tourist arrivals from Britain and Russia in particular rose significantly. According to data from the statistical service, there was a 32.7 per cent increase in arrivals in November.
An increase in the arrivals of tourists from Greece, Poland, Switzerland, France and Austria was also recorded, according to CTO.
Demetriades told CNA the CTO was working towards Cyprus becoming a year round destination.

Dont ask me why , as I dont know , but at the end of this year , like every year,
I stand back and think ''what will next year be like ? ..
and for the past 4-5 years i have thought we will just get by , it wont be great ...
But this year , I have a diffirent feeling , I am very optimistic about the coming year , I think things
are on the turn and we will see a good year for business in 2016 and 2017 ...
whats do you think ??

I know of 2 villa owners, 1 who has 2 villas and 1 who has 3 villas...both have said they are really surprised (and delighted) that they already have 85% occupancy booked for next year. Many booked when the exchange rate was in the €1.40 region

As with all stats, the devil is in the detail. A 32.7% increase compared with what? The previous month, the previous November, the previous increase figure? Without that information, the data is useless. I hope things are on the up but, if so, it is unlikely to be down to the risible efforts of the CTO and more to do with the tour operators and hoteliers. Even if there is a real increase in numbers it won't benefit the real economy as it is likely to be in the "all inclusive" sector.

With the Russians shunning their popular choice of Egypt, Brits looking twice at the wisdom of Turkey, and Tunisia off the agenda, is it any real surprise that holidaymakers are looking for other destinations? Cyprus is still seen as a safe destination in a troubled part of the world. Let's hope it stays that way.

Should be a good year for the Cyprus economy, boosted by increase in tourists.
The chances of a settlement deal are minimal, chances of any such deal being passed
by a referendum virtually nil.
This in itself is good news as any settlement would be very costly, and disruptive.
Talks will continue as neither side wants to be blamed for their failure - but they are
in reality a waste of time.
(IMO!)
Happy New Year to all forum members,
Geoff.

My instinct tells me its not just the way the tourist market is going , but many other pointers , the property market seems to be more active , businesses
for sale seem to be getting interest , footfall into shops/bars/restaurants , seems to be on the up . local builders seem to have plenty work .. etc ,etc ,etc ..
lets hope it continues ..
