Hallo. I gather prescriptions are now issued electronically under the new health system GESY and that they are valid for up to 6 months. However, I am not clear as to where exactly they are sent? To one's phone? Directly to the (hospital) pharmacy?
I am not in Cyprus just now so not up to speed. Thank you.

In our case our GP makes up our prescription, and presumably changes it when necessary onto the GESY system. When you go to your pharmcy they call up your prescription and issue your medication. The prescription also states how much you the patient have to pay the pharmacist. Seems to be working well.

If you are in front of your GP he/she will print off the prescription and hand it to you as well as enter it into the Gesy system. If you ask for it over the phone it gets put into the system and you can go to any pharmacy and give them your Alien number and date of birth and they can find it and dispense the prescription for you. I think the system works really well.

You don't need a print copy - go to any Gesy pharmacy with your Gesy number (passport, yellow slip or alien reg) and you can collect it there. All prescriptions are put on the system by your Doctor.

You're welcome.

Your prescription book is no longer used, but is worth keeping as it is a useful source of information on your past medications.

Absolutely correct and thank you for confirming my comment. Nobody needs to print prescription any longer, but the GP will usually hand you a printed copy of the prescription if you are sitting in front of him/her when they do it.

Our GP just enters the prescription on her computer and advises us it can be collected at any GESY pharmacy. When we need a repeat prescription we just send her an email with all the details and she either replies by email or phone to say she has processed the prescription and we go and collect it. As mentioned earlier the old prescription books are obsolete, but I kept the prescription sheets on file (never been requested to produce them). You need to show your ID number/GESY number to the pharmacist to prove you are the person who is eligible for the prescription.

After you have been to the pharmacy you are sent an email with details of where the prescription was collected and price paid. Nearly all prescriptions can be changed at any GESY pharmacy however a few restricted items can only be obtained from the pharmacy at the General Hospital.

You can also check on your Beneficiary Record on the GESY website for more detailed information. Just be aware that €1 per prescription is not the price for all GESY prescriptions but all are far cheaper than if you had to pay over the counter.

Exactly! The paper copy isn't needed - I've phoned my GP before, he has entered what I need on the system and I just go to the pharmacy to collect it!

Mine also

Good point from Alexis "Just be aware that €1 per prescription is not the price for all GESY prescriptions"

I use 2 'drugs' that normally cost €45 EACH (Total €90) my 'contribution' is €6 EACH

(Before GESY I was getting them from the UK for £20 EACH including postage)
