Having just been to see a specialist with whom I had an appointment, I can tell you that you will still need to go to reception first and pay your 2 euro and get your stickers, whether you have an appointment or not...your appointment time appears to mean nothing whatsoever, though some may have a different opinion than mine.

Having recently had a CT scan at the General, I can confirm 100% that you do not need to register or pay the €2 but go straight to the X-ray Department. The only thing you will need is the original request form showing your appointment. The scan results take around a week and then you have to collect from the X-ray Department Reception. To be on the safe side, take your medical card (although they didn't ask for mine).

The only time you have to register, pay the €2 and collect labels is when you are consulting a doctor who may prescribe medication. hence the labels. Appointments for scans, physio and such like do not require registration.

Don't queue up at the X-ray Department window, proceed pass and go down the corridor and turn right before the end to take you to the CT scan area and hand your appointment/request to someone and then wait to be called.

Hope this helps.

I stand corrected... :congrats thank you for the info as I have both an xray and ultra sound looming in the very near futureand now know not to waste time and money at reception...

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much to both of you. I feel a bit less stressed now knowing what to do.

I once asked about why I was given an appointment time then also a number when I register but then sat for hours waiting to be seen a long time after my appointment time with people being seen in number order and not appointment time and the doctor advised me that the appointments are only so they can guage how many people they might get to see that day. (basically it means nothing in regards to when you will get seen by the doctor only you will see them that day).

Oh well when in Rome as they say. (and E2.00 is not a bad price to pay to see a doctor).
