Once you have your residency certificate, you may well qualify for permission to employ a domestic worker on a live-in basis, which will cost you something in the region of 360 euros a month (there is a live-out basis but the wages are higher for obvious reasons). They are from either Sri lanka or the Phillipines and some will have nursing experience.

Thanks very much for your reply.
I would not want a live-in person. Rather I had in mind a nurse, possibly retired, maybe English.

Regarding my earlier posting for a minder/Carer.
Ideally someone fairly mature. Female. Patient is elderly gentleman with 'medium' level Alzheimer's.
Help would be needed on an ad hoc basis; probably half day or whole day exceptionally
Arival date Paphos tentatively 17 April otherwise 9 June. UNiversal area

I've checked as my figures were out of date. It seems the detail is as follows:

To have a domestic worker (previously called a housemaid) it will cost you 480 a month including social insurance payments (the worker actually gets 331). This is for full time (six days a week), there is no part time option. If the worker is to live out then you pay for her rent as well. There may be additional health insurance payments. You will have to lodge a bank guarantee of 850 but you get this back when she leaves.

Duties can include cooking and cleaning as well as care.

Although this might all seem strange to us Brits, there are in fact getting on for 20,000 such workers on the island.

Hi RN,

You may want to check out http://www.sunshinecarerscyprus.com/content/contact-us
Mark Davies and his wife Ada are the people who run it. Nice people.
I hope that helps.

that is very helpful. thanks so much. never heard of them. Actually because of economic crisis in cyprus crisis we came instead to the Canaries where there is a big Alzheimerscentre in NNW Tenerife which intend to try as they have a day care centre. However, the climate is much colder than Cyprus so we may well return to Cyprus in due course.

I did contact the people you mention but did not get very far. They say they would have to come to the home to assess the situation.

Post subject:  Re: minder (preferably French speaking)

Forgot to mention, it would be useful if the nurse/minder spoke French as patient is a French speaker (Belgian) with limited English. thanks.

Returning Cyprus 19 July to Kato Paphos area.
