any sales of standard-rated goods or services that take place on or after 1 December 2008 providers should charge VAT at the new rate of 15%.

For 13months from next Monday the UK standard VAT rate has been reduced to 15% from 17.5% ..... will this enough of an incentive to get people spending ?

For the business i`m involved with in the UK its initially looking like an administration headache to get the various systems & pricelists switched accurately so before we even make a sale in December we will have spent considerable money, and considering sales+profit are already way down for us it just seems a tad pointless ... time will tell

Is the UK government just trying to get Joe public to follow the ways of the present eejits in power, borrow, borrow, borrow. As if a small adjustment to VAT is going to turn things around. The UK will be paying for the current decisions made by this lot for a long time to come. I'm sure that some move into Downing Street and leave their brains behind......it sure looks it by the present pillok(sp) that is in, I'm not even going to start on his right hand man at number 11......

Time for bed (or was that zebedee), life in the UK, like being on the magic roundabout (or has someone been eating magic mushrooms)

Totally pointless - that's 2.5% off at most. A lot of the companies won't pass on the saving on right away as they've got to spend money to get programmes changed etc. :banghead :manic

On the plus side Dean's (Gotan) has now got a lot of work on going through programmes to change the VAT etc.

Yep it was an absolute administrative nightmare for small businesses, and the 2.5% saving to Joe Public meant nothing. Fortunately I was in a position to de-register for VAT, so am no-longer an unpaid tax collector for Mr D...
