The majority of posters on this site (I imagine) are retired and older people tend to vote conservative, hence the apparent discrepancy.

As those "retired and older people" were once students, young couples, new parents, parents of a bride or groom etc. ......
Don't you think that, as they have lived through previous Labour and Conservative Governments, they have learnt from past mistakes ?
Hence ... they now tend to vote Conservative !

I voted for Theresa May as you might have gathered... ;)

My vote is for Theresa May too.

As far as the UK polls are concerned, however, I suspect that 'the men in grey suits' as Margaret Thatcher called them, have had a hand in 'rigging' the narrowing gap in order to ensure that Conservative voters actually cast their votes and similarly to make Labour voters more complacent about Corbyn's chances and stay at home.

:goodpost SFD.
It is the very reason I will be voting Conservative, remembering the past miseries of the labour party when in government.

Having now added the 'votes' that 'vanished' when we added a new option to the poll...here is the updated version

Conservative 33 Votes 58%
Labour 9 Votes 16%
Lib Dem 4 Votes 7%
SNP 3 Votes 5%
Greens 1 Votes 1%
Other 3 Votes 5%
None of the above 2 Votes 4%
Not going to vote 2 Votes 4%

Wondering if May has got the mood of the country all wrong

As a lot of those who voted Brexit in the north are now voting Labour

Not because they do not believe in Brexit...they do...

but because they believe Corbyn on stopping Austerity, saving the NHS, FREE university fees for students, FREE child care, FREE school meals, more Police, better NHS, parts of WASPI think that Corbyn is going to look after them...he has applied his Labour manifesto across the board to try and get as many votes as he can from every walk of life to vote Labour

The only thing he has forgotten to do...is to explain WHERE all of this money is coming from to do ALL of these things! Which is frightening
And he will give a soft Brexit with more EU people allowed in and he has got a soft approach on terrorism...he still thinks we all need to sit down and chat about these issues!

They are forgetting about Brexit and fighting terrorism which is Mays shout
But she is also saying tougher times ahead!

And that has turned off many voters who are tired of Austerity

Think the poll here sadly does not reflect what is happening out there

Only time will tell

Well he says that he is going to tax the top 5% of wealthy people and large business, something that the Tories don't want to do.

Corbyn has promised to anybody who wants anything free...I only hope that the people see through his sham and vote sensibly, because there is no way Labour can finance any of their promises....Corbyn, labour will decimate the UK, allowing outside forces to rape and pillage it..forget WWII, this is potentially the UKs darkest hour.

Because it is pointless...

Tax revenue increased after reducing the top rates of tax. They will go down again if Corbyn tries to 'tax the rich'.

Unfortunately, many socialists are for increasing taxes 'for the rich' even if it results in a reduction of tax revenues. Talk about the politics of envy...

Worry not! My pundits in the UK assure me the Conservatives will win by an overall majority of 45.
Including 7 seats from the SNP in Scottie land.
They had been fearing a Lab + SNP Coalition, this seems most unlikely now.
I shan't even bother staying up for the SKY TV News exit-poll/result prediction at midnight Cyprus local time.
All over bar the shouting/Corbyn-Abbot tears.
Geoff.
P.S. The £ should equal €1.16 tomorrow when the City of London opens up.

Not so strong and stable after all..... Scraped through on postal votes by all accounts.

Amber Rudd held on by the skin of her teeth too.
Looks like the people were definitely swayed towards the end.
The #YouthVote have had their sniff at victory.

Maybe the tide is turning....

Oh, and the exchange rate has bombed again. But never mind, it's #Friday!

The Cons will win with an overall majority of 45 WRONG
Exchange rate 1.16 when the markets open WRONG

Who do your friends / chums / pundits work for...........…the Russians or the Mafia? :smilielol

A surprise result, but it was the Tories election to "lose" and they lost it despite still being the biggest party.

Their manifesto was the beginning of the problems- it was such an easy one to write, but in trying to be the responsible/strong party I think they scared a lot of people into voting Labour who of course were never going to win outright and put out a manifesto they could never fulfil without bankrupting the country

So despite the celebrations of some the UK today finds itself in a real pickle and the only way out of it is another General Election :-(

For the record I thought calling this election was the right thing for the country- the Brexit negotiations will take years, span 2 Parliaments of under the full term and changing government half way through any such negotiations would have been nigh impossible (that's part of the whole Article 50 trap)
