Ok, now I hopefully have your attention, I need advice or recommendation in what direction to take.

I have recently been given early retirement on ill health grounds, but they generously backdated it to 2004 when I left their employ to come here. I am now a bit concerned as to what I should do now with regard to sorting all this out and whether I declare the whole lot, since I opted out of UK tax shortly after I moved here and actually received a rebate - I am unsure at this stage what has been paid in UK since no letter/explanation has been received yet.

Any guidance please for this blonde who hates finance (apart from spending it) :celebrate in simple plain English please.

Just give it to me... simple your problem solved.

If you opted out of the UK system then you will have opted into the Cyprus system, therefore I would suggest that it should be declared as income. Not doing this may come back and bite you later.

Paphosfan Simon may come along soon, otherwise you can pm him.

Tanny give over, I am busy spending it - you got no chance, even Steve has begged me to stop spending    :smilielol No seriously, since I don't have a thing written down at the moment, suppose it won't hurt to wait until after my Thailand visit, I wouldn't like to get one over on the Cypriot system. :huff :celeb2

Trish, I would wait a while. I'm sure your Pension Company will write to you soon and give you all the details, of whats been paid to you, and stoppages if any. .........

Depends what you are talking about.
Is it a lump sum from your pension?
If you have opted to take up to 25% from a private pension at retirement age, this is tax free. Your monthly pension is then based on the remainder.
Alternativly this MIGHT be your entire 'monthly' pension backdated till 2004!! There isn't enough information and I agree with Molly, wait a month and see if any paperwork come through. If not contact your pension company and ask for a breakdown.

No chance of a breakdown Tanny, too busy with finding things to buy.

It isn't the lump sum, already had that, this is monthly pension since July 2004. I had better keep all the paperwork up to date then when it is received.
