hi
Advice required, is it worth bringing your near new car (12-month old) or is it to much hassle. Looking for some idea of costs involved getting it there and costs getting it registered in cyprus. thanks in advance as this has probably been covered earlier.

PS
Hope you are all well and looking forward to february for our next visit.

Kind Regards
Jed (Eddie)

Hi Jed

Received recently from GWENNY'S RED TAPE SERVICES for my car which is 5 years old.
Luckily we are retiring.
Quote:-

I have calculated the costs for your vehicle, using the last day of 2004 as the first registration date and today’s date as the date of import. This will give you a rough idea of the costs.

Excise duty - € 3233.00
Clearing Agent Paphos - € 40.00
Re registration fee - € 851.00
Annual Road Tax - € 240.00
MOT -€34.17
Legal Stamps - € 6.84
Number Plates -€ 20.50

If you intend to retire here in Cyprus, you would be eligible to make an application to get exemptions of the Excise duty. This would be done by way of a Retired Car Application.

Regarding whether it is better to bring the car or purchase here, I can only advise you from experience. All vehicles entering Cyprus are subject of the Excise duty and re registration fee. If you purchase a vehicle here, even if second hand, those costs are reflected in the price, which means the second hand market is expensive. If you bring your vehicle with you the advantages are that you know the car and its history.

Please note that if you have the vehicle duty free and you decide in the future to sell, you will have to pay the remaining duty first. As a retired person you are entitled to one duty free vehicle each at any one time. END Quote

Shipping costs would depend on if Container or 'Ro - Ro'

Hi
M.A.D
Thankyou for the info i think you summed it up, not worth it if you are not retiring. Better to sell here and buy something with the money once across in cyprus.

p.s
Hope all is going well with the sale of the house.

Regards
Jed

Hope this helps
