hi all

what clothes should we pack for our up and comming 6 months winter in Cyprus?

as i haven't a clue where to begin on this one

is there anything else that you think that we should bring over with us from the uk?

we are hoping to bring most things by plane and have a couple of carton boxes sent over by Parcel Carrier if possible to where we will be staying

any advice warmly accepted

I could recommend that you wear a full north American Indian head dress during the day , but not if you are planning to go shopping in
carrefour , as they wont fit through the sliding doors ...

OK - not an easy one . . . . you will need a warm coat/jacket, some thin sweaters and a couple of thick ones (or cardy type), a fleece. For sitting around the house in the evening, I do like some jogging bottom types of trousers, you know, the warm ones, cos it does get cool at night. I would bring shorts and t shirts as well, cos it can be gorgeous during the day, but when the sun goes down, so does the temperature. I would say bring what you would wear in the UK in Spring or Autumn, and pack a couple of hot water bottles, cos cotton sheets can feel very cold . . .

and to be honest we hadn't thought that we would need a warm coat besides a fleece but will def do that now

also going to bring some flanalette sheets for the colder nights

nothing worse than a freezing cold bed

I had one of them a few years ago , I was watching tv one night , got up to put the kettle on during the commercials
and broke my nose on the coffee table ...

I was actually going to mention flanelette sheets, but thought one or two people may extract the you know what, but you are sooooo right - they are fantastic, and the bed doesn't feel cold and damp. Actually, all the supermarket sell them here, that's how popular they are, but they do have some very strange patterns on them . . . . . let's just say not my taste I think the coat is best if there's been a bit of rain, cos that cools it down as well - you may not need it, but if you don't bring it, you know what will happen . . . . . you will definitely need it.

nkow what you mean about

if you don't bring something that will be the thing that you need most

which is why I normally travel with what edd calls "the kitchen sink" in tow

it sounds a bit worrying though that the bed could get damp as well as cold

because edd has got major lung probs.which is why we are looking to winter away from the uk

why would the beds get damp?

if you have heating for the bedroom

and slept in the bed everynight?

would we need to bring or buy an electric blanket to ensure that the bed is fully aired at all times?

It's not that the beds are damp, just that with cotton sheets they are so cold, they "feel" damp. With flanelettes you will be fine. If you have air conditioning units in the bedroom, you can set them onto the dehumidify sequence and that will be fine for you, takes all the moisture and condensation out of the air. I don't like electric blankets, got one in the UK some years ago and gave it away after less than a month, but I know a lot of people over here swear by them - I think it's all down to personal choice.

your answer has helped once again a great deal

and thanks about the turning the aircon unit to the dehumidify sequence

might sound daft.but because we don't have use for an air con here in the uk.......I didn't know about that particular function

we will have both dual aircon and oil filled rads for heating purposes

and the flannalettes are definitely now going to be packed to bring with us

we aren't electric blanket users ourselves over here in the uk

but wondered as to why quite a few folks I had read about use them to heat up their bed

as although the nights are cold

I was NOT imagining the -10-20's that we got here in the uk last winter

now that really was brrrrrrrrrrr cold
