Hello,

We have just moved to a villa with a pool and need some advice. We are going to be out of the country until April and need to know how to keep the pool in good order while we are away? Cleaning, maintenance, how often do I need to have the pump running daily etc.

Regards

Philippa

If you are going to keep the pool filled with water then you will need to employ someone to maintain each week. They do not look after themselves.

Hi Phillipa,

We Live here part time and have our pump running 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the eve when we're away... You will need to employ a company unless you have a friend that can drop in to clean the pool and top up the chlorine. We pay 100 euros per month.

If you purchase a cover that will help keep the monthly maintainance to a minimum. Ask the advice on over wintering from a proper pool company as to the dose of chemicals needed for this option. We moved into a villa with a pool which had been covered and unused for 18 months and when the cover was removed it was pretty clear considering. A pool man came and "shocked" it and thoroughly vacuumed and cleaned it which only took about 3 visits to get it swimable.
A much cheaper option than paying for monthly visits.

Would it be cheaper to empty it and then fill it back up when required??
