Simple way to check to see if its dead , at the center of the tree Fronds , where all the new ones start from , if its still Green then 90% sure its alive , if it looks a bit brown give it a tug quite hard if it comes out the tree is dead .

It is about 20ft high and read somewhere you can cut trunk down and leave till may and see if new growth comes out top.Or i may just remove it.

Hi

I saw a project in Abu Dhabi , where the client ( Ruling Family ) , insisted that all the Palms should be the same height and equal , so some Egyptians cut them all off to the same height , ( cut through the Trunk and hoped they would grow ) . 100% all dead and had to be removed and replaced .

So to answer your question if the heart is dead the tree is dead .

Do you have any Hole in the tree , would look like someone drilled them with a 15 to 20 mm bit , if yes and quite a few it could well be Red Weivels or Borer Beatles in which case the tree needs to be cut down and burnt , as they spread .

Regards

Les

Hi

Reckon the continual hard frost has killed it off.May just cut it down later and buy new one.
