Cyprus is set to clamp down on speeding with a new network of CCTV cameras expected to be installed on the island's roads.

Around 460 speed cameras are expected to be installed, with known danger spots taking priority.

Traffic police have identified the Coral Bay Road in Paphos, Akakiou Avenue in Polis Chrysochous and Grivas Dighenis Avenue in Nicosia as areas where the cameras would improve road safety.

The attorney general has been discussing the legalities of the project with the finance minister - both have said that the government wishes the system to be installed as soon as possible.

The entire cost of the project is estimated at €30million.

I suppose that they would love to install these however the current state of the Paphos roads makes it impossible to do so just now.

If any speed calming measures were required I would suggest either the mobile units or more potholes.
