Post subject:  importing my car to Cyprus

Hi can anyone answer this, I have a Renault car, 1 year old, I live in the UK but have a house in Cyprus, I was thinking to take the car to Cyprus but I asked customs at Paphos and they said as I was a UK resident I would have to pay about 5000 Euro duty plus registration plus a tax on emissions but my Cypriot friend tells me that I should only pay about 150 Euro.

Have I been given incorrect advice?

Many thanks.

Download the appropriate spreadsheet at the bottom of this page
http://www.mof.gov.cy/mof/customs/customs.nsf/All/56C4D9A3AB5A5B0AC2257488003A6B03?OpenDocument

which will answer your main question re 'excise duty'

We used Andrews to ship our car and ANW motors to do the paperwork

Would endorse contacting ANW in Tremithousa, they imparted a wealth of information to us when we were considering shipping a car to Cyprus. They can deal with the whole process on your behalf, should you choose.
They also have cars to sell!

So, who was right?
The customs or the Cypriot friend?

:)

Good question,

and the answer is both, the Duty is 2750 Euro but with mot, tax, number plates and delivery to Cyprus it is 5000Euro.
