We had a duty free car (retired status), on which we paid the duty and sold the car.

We have just brought a new car over from the UK and have been told by customs that as we had a duty free car in the past, we are not entitled to have this car duty free (retired status ) as there has been a change in the rules.

Anyone know if Is this correct ?

Regards, Neil.

Could it not be that you are not entitled unless you owned the car for 6 months in the Uk before you imported it?

Do they know that you paid the duty and sold the car or do they think you still own it?

Hi, you are entitled to a duty free car if you have retired status in Cyprus. Prior to december 2011, if you paid the duty on your duty free car and sold it, then you were entitled to get another car duty free.... now they are saying that since December 2011 you are not.....

I think that M.A.D maybe correct, retired or not, to be eligible for duty free the car needs to be owned for 6 months prior to importation.

Heard Simon Emery, Deals on Wheels on the radio at the weekend say there are no longer any duty free cars for anyone.
