Thanks to everyone who gave advice. Now bought a car and the info about checking log book to see if banks name there is very handy. Haven't checked logbook yet but certainly will do before leaving place with car. Thanks again.

And then more than double it for the price of cars over here! Second hand cars are notoriously expensive!!! I read somewhere that because of the amount of import duty that was levied, the selling prices were hugely inflated to cover this. . . . .very rarely do you see a second hand car under €1000. :greetings

You should always try and get age/year of manufacture of the car. The reg is almost irrelevant. The K reg is the current reg, but it's been current for at least 6 years. The reg the car is give is when it comes into the country so regardless of age if it imported now it get a new plate. I think you can request to move an older plate to a new car.

Also, always ask to see the log book - it will be in Greek, but if you look towards the bottom on the left hand side, just check there isn't a banks name there - if there is, it means there is an outstanding loan on the car. If this is not paid off the debt transfers to the new owner. :greetings
