Which 7 inch single you first bought?

The 45 rpm single has reached its 60th anniversary and despite repeated predictions of its demise, sales are rising once again. The first seven-inch was released by RCA in the US on 31 March 1949. But EMI's Abbey Road studios in London, where many iconic UK singles were recorded and mastered, can trace its history back even further, to 1931. Many of EMI's classic hits, by the Beatles and others, line the walls of the studio corridors.

Check here

* My first "single" was Freddie & the Dreamers, If you gotta make a fool of somebody.

This takes me back a bit. I actually had a cd player before getting a turntable.
My first single was "Hardcore Uproar" by Together

I've just listened to it again and realise that I had noi musical taste back then.
Check it out :)

My brother (who is 3 years older than me) saved up his pocket money and paper round money, and bought a record player. It was a single player, with the lid being the speaker. When he bought it he was given a record, so we just had the one record for about a week, it being Tammy by Debbie Reynolds (the B side was called French Heels). We drove my mum mad, cos we just played it over and over again. After that, every other Saturday when we got our spending money, we would head down to the local market where there were two record stalls  . My favourite was Connie Francis, and Ians was Roy Orbison. We always managed to afford original artists, steering clear of the Embassy Label at Woolworths.

My brother who is older than me bought a Dansette record player and he was mad on Elvis and so I remember all those being played.

The first one I bought was Diana by Paul Anka

I've tried to forget, but it's no good - my first single was Bachelor Boy by Cliff Richard. Cost 6/8d if my memory serves me well, and we also had a wonderful Dansette to play it on. My musical tastes have definitely changed since then....

Ian and I got a Dansette Major one Christmas BETWEEN us! It was maroon and cream moquette - my cousin Judith got one as well, but hers was her own, and it was royal blue and cream moquette - ah, memories.

and this was my last,

Looking back its funny how your tastes change, your moods change accordingly and your developement as a youngster can almost be reflected in your musical tastes.

Then people wonder why you are what you are.....

My first singles (and LP's) were played on a portable Fidelity player that had a plastic lid that clipped over, seems really basic now, but back then it was the dogs bs.

Progressed through a couple of turntables, cassette machines, CDs etc and now back to a turntable.

Theres just something very raw and basic about listening on a turntable that you dont get elsewhere.
