Just something to throw into the mix for discussion ..

Watching BBC world this morning, the story is
that it is now against the law to take a photograph of a policeman
and you can be arrested and sent to prison !!
They are saying that it is anti terrorist measure, yet human rights groups are saying,
its a another big brother move ..

I myself dont really care what is going on in the UK
but just wondered what others thought ?

Is it ok for the uk to have 7 million CCTV cameras, that on average film
a single person 10 times a day or more..
yet someone cannot take a picture of a bobby on the beat ..?

Well now,
There are going to a lot of tourists in jail soon. I know that the first time I ever set foot in London, thirty years ago, and saw a Bobbie with his headgear on, I snapped a photo, to show the folks back in the States.
Hey! look, just like in the movies.

So, what's going to happen to the TV news cameramen and a couple of million tourists?

When I worked in London (and the same goes for every tourist destination) tourists always wanted their photos taken with a 'British Bobby'.

It's just another reason why people laugh at what was once a great country.

Shame on the dimwits who think up this crap.

Further to the above posting, an example of the sort of people who dream up this stuff was recieved in an email this morning.

I enclose it below for your perusal.

Nosher

This is unbelievable, but true....................Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 600 employees and has the following employee statistics .

29... have been accused of spouse abuse

7... have been arrested for fraud

9... have been accused of writing bad cheques

17... have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses

3... have done time for assault

71... cannot get a credit card due to bad credit

14... have been arrested on drug-related charges

8... have been arrested for shoplifting

21... are currently defendants in lawsuits

84... have been arrested for drink driving in the last year

Which organisation is this?

It's the 635 members of the House of Commons, the same group that cranks out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us inline.

What a bunch of b*****ds we have running our country - it says it all.

And just to top all that, they probably have the best 'corporate' pension scheme in the country!!

Last time we heard that set of facts it was

In 1998 alone, 84 were stopped for drunk driving.

Yes, you guessed it! It's the 535 members of the United States Congress. The same group that cranks out hundreds of new laws designed to keep the rest of us in line.

and it was a hoax then too :doh

but we agree with the sentiment - they are a right bunch of ........ :soap

Not heard this one - would be interested to see what the legislation is and what Act it comes under, especially as I'm doing my exams next week!

We are always having our picture taken for good and bad reasons.

It's common for undercover police and specialist units to have their faces blocked if on TV and in newspapers but not your run of the mill police officer.

I haven't been able to find a link to it so if anyone can I would appreciate it. Would be good to have a gander at.

Our force display their names on the eppaulettes we wear, not all forces do -most have numbers. However at my station we were issued with numbers due to some of our particular customers finding out where we lived etc.

The Government want all the Local Policing Teams to be named and have their faces on all the literature that is sent out. How can you bat on about security on one hand and do this on the other - it seems as though the left doesn't know what the right is talking about again - no surprises there then :banghead

I found this ..
http://www.propagandamatrix.com/articles/january2009/012809_terror_law.htm
If you google
"Photographing a policeman is against the law"
it gives you few stories ..

Sarah, quick you better change your avatar before we are all arrested, or you are arrested for being complicit in the distribution of your own image, or something like that.

I had a look at the link Neil and it does seem to suggest that it is mainly for terrorism - which I can go along with. The other bit about journalism does seem to rant on about police requesting films etc but other walks of life also demand the film -in some cases it isn't a good idea to photograph scenes and people and we do ask photographers not to take pictures of road accidents, murder scenes etc, more for the dignity of the injured, deceased, but as far as I am aware, and I stand to be corrected, as long as you are in a public place and it is not kids, there is no law against taking photographs - unless of course there are signs requesting you don't and this is generally for copyright reasons.

My picture, and that of the paramedics and another colleague, was recently on the front of a magazine, on TV and in every national newspaper recently and there was nothing we could do about it - fortunately they got my good side

Verity, there is no need to offer luck for the exams. Sarah will clearly walk them with her eyes shut. Lets just hope she can make use of the good result.

:offtopic Thanks for your support guys, it's not a given but if I don't pass it isn't going to be for the lack of trying - I don't think I have ever revised so hard in my entire life, but I guess it's the same with every exam, if the questions fall right you stand a better chance
