As we are coming over in March for 5 weeks I have been looking at trying to get cheaper car hire. Has any one used Economy Car Rental as there prices are considerably cheaper than the one we usually use. What has made me a bit concerned is they put in their terms and conditions it is covered third party but then in another part of the terms and conditions it states Full Damage Waiver - no excess. If that is true how can it only be third party. I am bit confused - doesn't take a lot. I know generally you only get what you pay for but there is a difference of over £100 for exactly the same car between two companies. Any comments welcome.

Yes there can be a marked difference between companies. We use elephantrentacar.com who do have a zero excess fully comp insurance including windscreens etc. Petrol tank about half full is the usual routine. They have always been reliable for us and our guests so we stick with them.

We have seen some cheaper ones, but have also heard of some horror stories from some who make a killing on your credit card after youve left the Island...

Lyn, can't help you there as never hired one in Paphos only in Ayia Napa and I certainly would not recommend them.

I could always ask some of my neighbours, two of them have car hire businesses. If you can pm me the exact dates with your e-mail address, I will go round and see them both and see if I can get you a cheaper deal, also get copies of their terms and conditions, scan and e-mail them to you if that helps.

Hi is there a website for Elephant, we have family visiting end of April and they have been quoted £50 per day, does this sound right, we thought it was expensive?

Sorry just noticed the web address

If you are shopping around, try George and Kula at Easy Rentacar.

Try Carjet.com always found them to be good, and the best price. You book through the net, and pick the car up at Sixth car hire, desk at the airport... Richard

We've used Economy Car Rental before, no problems and we queried the excess and it was fully comp. Give them a ring and they will explain it to you, can't remember what the explanation was now but it made sense at the time

Thanks Sarah. That is what I wanted really someone who had used this company. will still shop around but haven't found anyone so far that comes close to their prices.

Kevin, usually use George and Kula but their price is nowhere near the price Economy car give.

I used Economy car rental...... ONCE...... Rent a wreck would be a more appropriate name.

Prices were good but car was not. Covered in dents and scratches but in fairness it didn't let us down.... just a bit embarrassing to be seen in..... Pays yer money & takes yer choice...

It happened to us, we were charged around CY£750 on the credit card instead of around CY£150. When we got it all sorted out, it would have appeared that the number 1 had been doctored after I had signed into a number 7 with a stroke through the centre to make it look more convincing.

There are some companies out there that I would advise people not to use.

Oh dear, my keyboard appears to be playing up, it keeps changing some of my text, and there is nothing I can do to change it.

I've used this company several times, always helpful, pick up at airport, drop off at airport, on the one occasion I returned my car to their they provided me with a taxi.
