Went to the new Paphos Mall this morning - first shop there is an opticians, so, as I am looking to change my glasses I went in for a look. I saw some frames I like, and, as there is an opening discount, I asked for an idea of the frames with varifocal lenses and reactolite tints. The girl asked to see my glasses so she could look at the varifocal "bit", and was on the phone to another branch to get an idea of the price, when OOPS!! she dropped my rimless glasses onto the desk - and one of the lenses broke! She's shouting down the phone, I've broken them! - bear in mind these are Bluemarine (designer name) glasses, with Rodenstock lenses! She told me they would replace the lens - no way, says I - they'll be different colours (something that happens with reactolite), and there's no way I'm walking round with different coloured lenses, so I found my prescription sunglasses and drove home to get an old pair of ordinary glasses, while she sorted it out with the manager.

When I got back to the mall I did my shopping, and the manager rang me and asked me to call in the shop on my way out, which I did. I again refused the offer of a new single lens, and told them I was not at all happy. Anyway, upshot is we "negotiated" the price on a new pair of frames with new lenses, and I am going in the morning to get my eyes tested for the new pair.

So I have to say, from what was a disastrous start, the shop came through with a decent solution, and excellent customer service (mind you, when I went back the girl was no longer there!)

Will let you know what happens tomorrow.

Hello Jean

I think that is a TERRIBLE way for you to have represented the English community that lives here in Paphos, Cyprus.

You should have said ‘That’s OK I will sort it out myself’ and left the shop with your head held high.

OK - update for you - went to get my eyes tested this morning, and I was very impressed! He offered to check my pressures, but I declined as I saw the eye consultant at the General a couple of weeks ago, so I knew they were fine. He then set up another machine (which I have never seen before), to check distances (?) - then he did the full vision test. He was still very apologetic about yesterday, and said he would try to have my new glasses ready Thursday afternoon - considering tomorrow is half day closing, I thought this was very good.

So I can now say I have found an opticians who do good eye tests, and have excellent customer service. :clap
