Hi anyone

I'm new to this forum - like everyone else hoping to realise the dream one day. Pete and I are coming out to Paphos next month staying in Kathikas. Hoping to have a look round at areas for resales. This is our second visit, stayed in Kissonerga last year, thought we would try village life this time. Does anyone know much about Kathikas.

Any tips or advice would be welcome.

Kind regards

Sue (& Pete)

Hi Sue & Pete

Welcome to the forum.

Kathikas; Nice village with plently of history, a good location if you don't have to get to schools daily or supermarkets every other day - i.e. you (not?) having young children!

Plenty to do using it as a base i.e. Polis, Coral Bay, Paphos Town, Highway etc.

Quite a few local bars/resturants in the area English & Cypriot owned, MOST selling J2O (Sorry guys - thats an ad' :) ).

One IMPORTANT point; Before you commit to buy - check where the new Paphos to Polis highway will run. Maybe you will have a building site on your doorstep for the next 5 years followed by a SPEED TRACK!!!

Hi Sue,

Welcome to PP, glad to have you on board & l hope you find the answer to all your questions :greetings

Kathikas is a nice village with 4-5 tavernas & a sports bar, so plenty of choice for eating out :D It's about 30min drive from Paphos centre, so you'll need a car & there are plenty of places that you can visit :D

Welcome Sue & Pete,

Kathikas is in the rural belt and is a great point to explore from. There are many great low development villages out there so take your time.

Hi Sue and Pete and welcome...
We Live in Kathikas.... and we love it.... We took early retirement and moved over this year.
Unlike Paphos and "Little Britain" oops Sorry Peya. We do not get the high humidity as we are some 700M above sea level. Neither do we get thousands of mozzies or noseeums.
The village is a great place to live. The Mucktar even holds a separate monthly meeting for the Brits so as to keep us informed of whats going on in the village and to learn what is causing us concern.
We have an excellent relationship with all the local Cypriots and are made to feel welcome and part of the community.
An added bonus is of course the Vasillikon Winery, which is also in the village. This winery is commonly regarded as producing the best red wine in Cyprus and regularly wins awards.
If you want to look us up when you are out here feel free to do so. Just drop us a PM and I'll give you a phone number and location of where we are.

Brian & Steph

welcome, i did a damp proof course in kathikas last year and i really liked it, it seems just about right.
non of the hustle and bustle but near enough to it incase you feel you need it.
As sevener says because its fairly high its not quite as harsh on the brit as some other places might be.
having said all that it was absolutley lashing it down and as windy as hell when i was there :P

Welcome Sue and Pete

I love Kathikas and the bars and Tavernas

When spending time in Cyprus, with a house in Peyia, I visit a manicurist, pedicurist and hairdresser in Kathikas and well worth a visit Sue, if you have time to be pampered, and she gives good value for money.

Chris

Hi again Sue,

As Severner as stated, Kathikas is approx 700m above sea level so yes you do get less humidity during the long hot summer month but on the bad side, you also get the freezing cold temperatures, rain & cloudy weather during the even longer winter months, so if you do move there, you'll need central heating & a wood burner

I currently live in Tsada which isn't far from Kathikas, approx 15mins drive, we're at approx 620m & we had 6" of snow in Febuary this year & minus temperatures during the winter months, not so much rain but the weather, clouds & thunder & lightening storms are to be warned about, as it's not alway sunny, we don't have central heating but do have a 12kw wood burner which was a god send this past winter :D :D

Just thought you'd need to know the bad as well as the good :greetings

A bit of poetic license there I think Pete :)
There was nothing like 6" in Kathikas more like 2" and it only lasted for 24 hours.
There were a few frosty nights but the days were generally warm even up here.

I remember more than a few extremely cold nights and that was in Chloraka  and this is coming from someone who lives in Scotland.
Nice mild days though.

No poetic license required mate, here's our Noushka in the waste land next to our villa, enjoying the snow:

This was the view from our driveway down towards Paphos, just incase you thought the photo above was taken in Troodos:
