I was informed by some German clients that all passengers to the Larnaca airport were required to have a photograph taken and given to the passport control, has anyone any knowledge of this please.
Thanks

The passport reading machines (similar to those in the UK) have been at the airports for a few years now. Pretty standard stuff.

Major UK airports all have them. I always fly to Heathrow and they have loads of them. You scan your biometric passport and have your photo taken and, all being well, the barriers open and you are in. Much easier than queueing up to speak to someone behind a desk.

The simplest way to tell if your passport is biometric is by looking at the cover. If there’s a small, gold camera logo at the bottom, then it’s biometric. Otherwise, the technology held within a biometric passport has become so advanced and the components so small that you can’t feel any lumps or ridges at all.

If your passport is three years old it will be biometric. I don't think there are many non biometric ones left these days.

A biometric passport is a traditional paper passport with an embedded microchip that holds your personal information (name, date and place of birthetc), as well as your photograph.
