Anyway, an informed debate may well now ensue, but in the meantime this made me chuckle:



Anyone else find themselves strangely susceptible to getting drawn into long discussions? This place isn't bad (so far!) I have to say, but i'm a member of a couple of forums where debates can go on for weeks and get incredibly involved.

Where did we hone our debating skills before the advent of these places?? Down the pub I suppose!

I don't mind a debate. What I dislike is when it turns nasty and people start getting personal and rude to each other. Or when people POST THEIR OPINIONS IN CAPITALS as if they are shouting. Then they use lots of !!!!!!!! and to hammer home the fact that they are obviously right. There is a lot of that on some forums.

People's posts can get misconstrued, but not everyone allows for that.

If it gets to that point I just give up and leave everyone to it. It is not a debate if everyone's opinion is not respected - IMHO.

There is a place for forum debates, but face to face debates are more stimulating because you can see facial expressions and body language and if you have been misunderstood you can remedy it immediately without the other people stewing.

It used to upset me when I was new to forums. Now it just bores me.

You will also be surprised how many forum heroes there are.In reality in living flesh they would not say boo to goose.

That's one of the main reason we started PP up is so members could have their own opinions without the fear of being lambasted for saying what they feel & so far its seems to be working well, just as long as the member realise we are all friendly & don't do what Verity said & take things the wrong way but inevitably that does happen, so that's why you need moderators & administrators to watch over the forums to make sure everything is running smoothly & to sort out any problems that may arise

I love a good debate & don't mind if it gets a little controversial either, as I think it spices it up a little & makes more people get involved
