Hi my PP friends,
well, as some of you already know im back here on this lovely island supporting my mum for a few days while she has major surgery to remove a large tumour from the parotid (salivary) gland. My mum ( Debs) went in theatre this morning at 8 for four and a half hours while amazing surgeons Dr. Haralambides and Dr. Jung of Nicosia removed the tumour and the salivary gland. Obviuosly my mum was frightened when we arrived this morning but everyone was excellent and shortly before she went to theatre she was told that the swab they had taken at the beginning of the week had shown that the tumour seems to be benign although we will know for definate next week. So, the main problem was gonna be the facial paralysis, but Dr. Jung managed to complete the surgery without severely damaging the main nerve as first thought so any paralysis should now be temporary. My mum is still very sore and bandaged like a mummy but the future is finally promising. Thank you all for your support and the calls, you are truly amazing people and it doesn't go un noticed im gonna call my babies now and get back to iasis hospital and will keep you all updated. If there is one thing this has made us realise it is this....if you have a dream you think is unrealistic...make it happen...don't let it take something like this to make you value life, and from the stories of other people i have met today....never go a day without telling someone what a special friend they are, or telling someone you love how you feel. Update to come soon....

Emma

Emma

Good to talk to you this afternoon - I could hear the relief in your voice. You will be able to go home to your babies on Sunday knowing it is all over. Tell your Mum she only has to let any of us know if she needs anything when she gets home, and if we can help, you know we will.

Try to get a good nights sleep.

Hi PP's thanks for all your lovely posts, my mum is a lot more comfortble this morning and slept ok thanks to a supersized shot of pethidine at bed time! She is still very sore obiviously and still looks like a mummy but she is a lttle more mobile...not that im suprised i think the old bird is invincible to be fair ha the road to recovery is long but promising! On a more sombre note our thoughts are with Jean and her amily this morning after hearing the sad news that her mother passed away yesterday afternoon, she has managed to get a flight to the u.k this afternoon and im sure you will all give her the support you have shown me and my mum this past week, so sorry for your loss Jean, anything you need we are all here. xx

So pleased that the news is positive Emma. I remember Debs from when she worked at the Square in Tala. Everytime we went in she always made us smile! She is a lovely lady and I hope someone is making her smile now( only if the bandages allow it!)

I am so pleased Emma that your Mum is slowly progressing after her surgery. It will have helped her a lot that you are there with her.

Hope she is soon feeling more like herself again and the future looks good from here on.

I have been offline, as you know, but I have been told about your Mum. I am pleased to hear that everything has gone well and I wish her a speedy recovery.

I am glad that the membership of this forum has provided you both with some support, too.

God Bless.

Hi Emma,

Wishing your Mum a speedy recovery and all the best for the future.
She had a good surgeon, he was the one that operated on me and I have great faith in him.

Hi Marj,

This is what Emma posted on Saturday under the heading about pharmacy opening times.

"Hi PP,
Thankfully i have just brought my mum home from iasis but the pharmacy was closed and we need to get her prescriptions, anyone know of any open over weekend locally?

Emma"
