Well after a lot of soul searching me and the good lady are heading back, not been an easy decision but we had to use our head not our heart, our furniture going this Wednesday and we fly out on Saturday, off to Cumbria and a new life (again), will miss this place but there we go.

Will miss the forum and the banter, the arguments and differences of opinion, it has been different, at times irritating and at times hilarious, will pop in now and again and see how you are all getting on.

Personal note thanks to Neil and Dave, you know what I am referring to.

I will be offline from early doors Tuesday so I will say farewell now.

Well dear members I wish you all the best and hope this Brexit thing does not cause you too much grief, take care of yourselves and good luck.

Best wishes

Best of luck and say a big hello to my old home county for me - we went back in October for 3 weeks and it was as beautiful as ever! What area are you returning to?

Plus you will have left water shortages behind living in that region of the UK!
Good Luck.

We'll only find out after it has happened, at the start of the 70s we were promised the earth over North Sea Oil & Gas along with going into the EU yet we ended up being worse off.

Well folks just an update, Peter Morton and Chudley's in UK have done a great job in moving me back, everything unpacked and not one item scratched or damaged, a brilliant job still trying to find homes for our furniture.
Anyway missing the warmth of Cyprus because it is minus silly here, last week in this part of the land Hallbankgate, Brampton it was minus 6 plus wind chill took it down to minus 12, my bits and pieces are frozen, never been as cold.
Took this out of my bedroom window, no words really needed.

Aw bless you, was thinking when you said you were moving back how you'd feel when the Winter set in.
Upsides and downsides to living in both places but I hope at least you have a well insulated house with carpets and central heating in Brampton!

It is surprising how quickly you adjust back! We were in Cyprus for 10 years and returned to the UK ( Northumberland) last winter. We were probably lucky that last year was relatively mild so we were broken in gently. This year was somewhat different to put it mildly and when we had the beast from the east we were snowed in for 8 days and almost running out of food however our house is lovely and cosy and warm and we managed fine. It is good to be back and we do not regret our decision to return.

Hi again,
My good lady does not miss Cyprus one bit and is glad to be back, I however miss the warmth, will readjust as it warms up, today is a bonus it is plus 7, wow soon be time to get the shorts on again (not).
This may sound crazy but we have been food shopping, just buying the normal things we bought in Cyprus, not luxury food but the basics, fruit milk veg and meat, as I said the normal run of the mill items and we have found it a lot cheaper here in the UK. Ok we have other bills, we both went to the doctors to register and it did not cost us anything, long term we will see.

Yes we have definitely found food cheaper and also electricity and gas - am spending less this winter on heating this house than I was in Cyprus, although I have to admit we did use aircon a lot in the summer in Cyprus! I now have to pay some income tax here albeit not much. Council tax is of course much more expensive and also water but as you say no Doctors / Specialists to pay for, no prescription charges etc.
On the whole I am sure it is more expensive here but we have not found it excessively so. Cyprus was always too hot for me and I suffered in the Summer months but I really like the sun and was worried that I would never see it again but maybe it is where we live near the coast but we have a lot of sun and that suits me fine - don't mind the cold!
Pleased that your wife is enjoying being back - it is a difficult decision to make and I know how stressful it can be. I'm sure you will be able to don your shorts again soon!!

Bossyboots. Firstly, I thought you'd barred yourself from this forum ! Secondly, why on earth did you move to Cyprus in the first place. You come on the forums and continually tell us how great life is in the UK,, how much cheaper it is, how much better the healthcare is, and how much more temperate the weather is, even though you just had two very nasty storms. Most have lived in the UK before, and know for experience how much better our lifestyle is in Cyprus. Just give it a rest.

Birdseye I don't know what rattled your cage! I also don't know how my last post was under Bossy Boots as I am really Poppytim. So let me reply to your post. Firstly yes I did get annoyed and say I would no longer post but surely I can be allowed to change my mind?
Secondly I moved to Cyprus for many reasons and had some happy years there but as I got older and my health deteriorated, the weather was not helping my condition and it was definitely getting hotter each year!! Thirdly,if you read my post correctly I state that on the whole life is more expensive here in the UK.I most certainly did not say the weather is more temperate here.We were snowed in for 8 days. What I did say is that we do see the sun far more than I was expecting. Healthcare for us is far better here than in Paphos but that is very individual. I have never to my knowledge pulled Cyprus down but I will always post honestly and if my experience of returning can help anyone else who may be thinking of returning then surely that can only be good.

Hello Poppytim, Don't worry about people who cannot read between the lines, I know over the last few years I came across those trolls.
I agree if we can help anyone who is either thinking of coming back to the UK, or going to Cyprus then we will continue to do so.
I came back for many reasons, Cyprus and the UK are not utopian lands, there are good things and bad things in both countries, it is up to the individual to determine which is best for them.
Today it might be wonderful living the dream, but tomorrow it might be a nightmare as it was for me and Helen, those that stayed or those that came back made a decision and will have to live with it, either way good luck to those that have made a decision.
