Saw this in Cyprus mail, not surprised one bit, they only have themselves to blame as I will elaborate.

Rubbish in the reservoirs are locals not tourists, because tourists do not dump furniture or building waste.
The massive regeneration and building of luxury villas like the complex at Cap St. George uses water and lots of it.

So when you switch on your tap, just think of the pollution coming from the reservoirs, anyway read for yourself.

Well to help part of the problem would be too introduce a long standing system used in Estonia. They put a deposit of about 50 cent Or 1 euro on all disposable glass bottles. Why not extend it to all drinks cans and bottles, then if people do litter then some else will go round and pick them up for the money, it works in Estonia !
the same goes with the law about paying for bags in shops, we are just lazy, and being stung a few times when shopping you will soon learn to remember to take bags with you, like the Lidl system, yes they do that in Estonia too.
Recycling can be as simple as using a carrier bag twice, think green!

Estonia ? Where is it ? Is part of Andorra ?:)

In USA we pay hefty "disposal fee" for TV, computers, etc

Perhaps Cyprus would impose such fee for sofa and any bulky furniture !

No Sergio, the last thing anyone needs in Cyprus is yet another charge for services.

I've noticed that re-usable items left on the pavement, miraculously disappear overnight.

Sergio, I sadly must agree with you, the state of the Akamas is one example, building rubbish everywhere, as I said you cannot blame tourist locals are doing this, the saying goes you will reap what you sow, on the face of it there is no pride it is governed by financial geed.
