Had reason to visit the car park at Tombs of the Kings recently and was embarrassed and upset by the amount of junk and little there. Of course its ultimately left to the municipality to clean it up and present it nicely, however the junk fell generally into 2 categories.
Firstly personal items of individual sanitary items including toilet roll etc
Secondly a massive volume of papers, wrappers, bags and cups from a fast food retailer closely starting with a Big M. When you see the volume used the packaging can only be seen as excessive.

But users tourists and locals have to bear responsibility also, I wonder of they would leave such junk on their own front door step.

Hi Tanny,
I put a post on months ago about my friends saying the Island has become a mess with litter and I was slated for my comments, now you have sadly confirmed what I said that Cyprus it is getting dirtier.
Is there an end in site NO, drive from the Vets near Peyia down to Potima Bay and look at the rubbish on the side of the road.
Add to that what, does litter attract? Yes vermin, we all know the problems with that issue.

My wife, Rachel and I recently went to Barbados.

We both said that it's so much better than Cyprus. Not for the beaches and the beauty of the place, which can be found in Cyprus. BUT for the courteous drivers and above all the lack of litter. The local population are proud of their island and also pleased that people go there for their holidays.

In the 10 years that I have had an apartment in Cyprus I have seen it go down in both these aspects. The local populace take tourists for granted, even resenting their presence. They definitely do not respect their environment. Sadly both these things are to the Country's detriment. :banghead

We have sadly put our apartment on the market, and if it doesn't sell (likely) will rent it out. We will probably not be returning to Cyprus. :-(

How many people who complain about the litter actually bother to pick it up!

When I take my dog for her walk I take with me a plastic bin bag and collect the waste I find, then place it beside or in a rubbish bin.

Some walks generate a lot, some a little but it does make a difference.

When we are out and about and if I see rubbish on the floor I will pick it up and place it in a bin.

Its simple to do and I know I make a difference! :morning

A few years ago, several of us dog-walkers picked up lots of rubbish around where we walk in Coral Bay.......a few days later, you would never know we had been there.

End of rubbish collection in Cyprus for me.

Attended the same car ark today and has been nicely cleaned up and the gardening done. Looking very smart now...... but for how long.

As much f the rubbish comes from McDonalds and KFC maybe an onus should be put to them to have a weekly clean up trail....
