Two more tourists have drowned at this infamous place; bringing the total slaughter to 18 in ten years, only in Paphos could the local council stop building safety barriers due to the noise! They could have put someone on the beach to stop people going in, but the response I think was the typical Cyprus shrug! :-(

However even as a tourist destination swimmers must take care and be sensible.

Unfortunately after a few sherbets, the alpha male types think they are invincible. How often do you see people ignore road signs especially traffic lights? The same on the beaches. If you had beach police fining them on the spot I think it would potentially save lives. :pint

We are a small island and a small community
We cannot police every beach same as we don,t in the uk

Any death is absolutely awful and shocking

But

The swimmers also must take some responsibility and look at and read the signs posted and not go swimming when a red flag is out to say not to swim...the red flag is a universal sign of danger. The seas on Saturday where very high and strong.

Yet the amounts of times that we have passed Potoma Bay and a red flag is clearly being flown and yet people still go in swimming!

Very sad...maybe the holiday companies could point out the dangers of some of the beaches here for when people are booking..that hotel tell all visitors about the fatalities along that strip of beach....also maybe as a small thought rental villas and apartments could also show this warning when people book

But I cannot help wonder that sadly no matter how many times told, some people will chose to think that they are a stronger swimmer than the hazardous waters around our coast

Very very sad and tragic
