Today, the 16th of August marks the fortieth anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley. Where were you, like the JFK assassination most people can remember exactly where they were.
I was on a camping holiday in the Isle of Wight, no radio, so we were at a loss as to what everybody was going on about. We didn't find out until lunchtime that he was gone.
What are your memories?

I was serving in Northern Ireland watching the news as we did, when Reginald Bosanquet broke the news, those that were in the room looked at each other, one of the lads who was ardent Elvis fan and also did good impersonations was shocked and cried, we had to give him the night off.

I was in Munich and saw the german news paper board on the pavement which said 'Elvis is Tote'.

I was stationed in RAF Guttersloh at the time and was on holiday with my caravan and had with us the in-laws & out-laws at the same time. (wasn't I brave? lol).

I've no idea where I was when the news came in so it mustn't have been something that particularly interested me. I was never an Elvis fan although I got more interested after seeing Chris King when he used to run the karaoke at the Nags Head pub in Limassol when we came out for holidays.

August 1977 I was working for the Inland Revenue within the CIS building, Manchester so I'm a bit confused why I don't recall the actual event.

I was going to an appointment to sell a big deal in Ramsbottom (Lancashire) I was early so I sat outside the prospective customers factory binding my time and bought the morning paper and there was the headlines "Elvis is dead" I can,t remember whether I got the deal or not.

I was 9 years of age - but do still vividly remember watching on the news with our new colour TV!

Whilst not the biggest Elvis fan -although agree he is an icon and the older I get the more I appreciate (maybe that a Chris King thing!), isn't it funny when one of the greats passes away Lennon, Mercury, Prince, Bowie, Amy Whitehouse even etc. you can remember where you where when the news broke?

40 years? Good grief!

I can remember very clearly - I was making up the bed in my new flat-share.
The girl I was sharing with broke down in tears, weeping and wailing - I wondered what I'd let myself in for!

I can remember the duvet cover so vividly yet I can't remember what I had for tea last night!?!
