When we moved here 18 months ago we lasted 4 months without TV before giving in to the Sky people. Now we're about to move up to Tsada and our neighbours here have offered to buy our 2.7 dish. We were planning to take it with us but , thinking about it, all we ever watch (and not daily) is AlJazeera news, News 24 and Kids BBC channels. Very very occassionally we watch bbc 1 (usually for Dr Who! )
So, do you think its worth carrying on with the £21 / month subs or are there any better systems around? Is Freesat here?
I guess really we just need news/kids stuff.
Has anyone got rid of TV completely and just use the net?
Lisa

We have lived here nearly 7 years now,
and still don't have Sky or any other TV
system apart from the local channels.

When we lived in the UK we were both square - eyed
with watching TV. We had 2 sat. systems in the house,
one for me and one for Mrs JGG.
We agreed when we came to live here that TV is not
so important now as it seemed to have been.

There are many other things in life other than TV.

Now dont get me wrong.........

I/we both miss some tv progs. but tend to watch sport (FREE)
HERE and FILMS etc (FREE)
HERE.

We also have a friend who occassionaly tapes on video certain progs.
for us to watch during the winter months.

Hope this is of some help.

JGG

Hi Lisa
For the first 3 years of living here I had Sky with full package and rarely watched it. Even in UK my life wasnt ruled by soaps or by whatever programme was on at specific times etc so it wasnt such a big deal for me. Kids(as you know) like cartoons etc so the offspring got my moneys worth out of it.

Now I still have Sky but with the FTV card, I still dont watch a lot but now and again its nice to wind down in front of the box.

I guess its a matter of personal choice.
Good luck with your move.
Jules x

Hi I agree, take the dish with you, use the FTV card, thats all we have. Handy in Winter months, I like my Dr Who, my other half, likes her Coronation street, and the FTV delivers all of these at no cost, but you will need that dish.... Richard

I live in Tsada & have a 3m dish & wouldn't live without it as I have serveral programmes I like to watch but haven't seen a soap since being here as they bore the crap out of me, I prefer to watch UFC, Footy, movies but mainly the Discovery from channel 520 upwards, as I enjoy finding out things, so nope, not a cat in hells chance of me giving up my Sky for love nor money

You should beable to watch all the freeview channels without a subscription, these will cover Dr Who and BBC news etc.
Maybe your sat man is charging you for these!
It will be worth taking it with you for the £100 or so reinstallment fee.

As others have indicated, you do not need a monthly subscription to receive AlJazeera news, News 24, BBC1 and the Kids BBC channels. You do however need a dish and a digibox. Freesat would require the same dish, but a different digibox - which you will probably have to import from the UK (at least in the near term).
