[quote="Ilex"]I am not talking about shepherding people into substandard accommodation

There should be no substandard accommodation in the UK, but when you open up a wealthy country to such an extent that the poorest in the UK have to compete with the even poorer from other countries for jobs and accommodation the very nature of globalisation and corporate and individual greed drives living standards down for those poorest , and the decline of living standards for ordinary people in the UK is something I personally find repugnant [quote]

Spot on.

Correct, see my earlier post of 14th June; that earlier report was of a woman not a man running out of the flat where the fridge exploded.
On BBC Radio 5 Live this morning early a firefighter confirmed it. He said they arrived (first to do so) at the scene and extinguished that fridge fire on the 4/F. He said whilst they did so they told tenants to stay in their flats - as per posted fire instructions.
He said that would normally have been fine, and the fire contained, no other flats affected.
But, he was horrified to see the fire had spread to the outside cladding and was spreading around the building and upwards.
Clearly the cladding was the problem, but was it legal to have fitted it, or not?
The contractor says it was legal, The Govt (Phillip Hammond on SKY News yesterday) says it was illegal.
More dosh for the lawyers no doubt sorting it all out and attributing blame!
Geoff.
P.S. Same firefighter said it was a freezer (not a fridge) and the 4/F fire MAY have been caused by a power surge to the building.

I didn't hear that interview Geoffreys.
Did the firefighter mention seeing the Ethiopian man that had sent his family out and already packed his bags when he reported an explosion and fire from a fridge in his flat?
The man that Bassman told us about in an earlier post.........."Hmmm"

Seems like there no end to the garbage that bassman comes out with. It's a good job no one takes his fatuous comments seriously.
