I was asked a question I couldn't really answer.

How many British people (UK passport holders) are moving to Cyprus to buy and secure a EU passport for themselves post Brexit.

Has anyone come across any?

No.
While here, I will abide by the law of this land .... but it will never supercede my belief in my own country's law.
And I will not betray my nationality ...... I would rather go back to the UK !

You have to be resident here permanently for 5 years before you can take out Cypriot citizenship and obtain a Cyprus (= EU) passport.
I cannot see any reason to do that, now or post-Brexit.
We have been here 14 years, quite happy with our UK passports thank you.
Why did you ask this question, maybe I am missing something?
Geoff.

Maybe they can apply under the citizenship investment scheme.

Could be. But do you know any UK passport holder who would want to buy a €1M+ property just to get a Cyprus passport?
As I said, what would be the point?
Geoff.

A friend of mine has just got himself an Irish passport (as they will remain in the EU) due to having an Irish grandfather.
That gives him dual nationality (British and Irish) but frankly I am at a loss to understand what the benefit is, or will be!

I would have though that an Irish passport was a waste of time as Ireland has no choice but to leave the EU when the UK DOES. Ireland joined the EU when the UK did to maintain and increase its exports to the UK its largest customer.

If Ireland remains in the EU it will witness large container ships from NZ, Australia, South Africa and the USA bringing cheaper products and without any baggage and will lose its largest customer. I cannot see the Irish farmers putting up with that given the very bad treatment Ireland has had from the EU since it joined.
