This is from the Cyprus Mail, I can see instead of banana plantations, cannabis farms, that would be fun if we had a fire in one! :pint

A presentation on the use of medical cannabis will be held in Geroskipou in Paphos on Thursday evening.

Green party member and Peyia councillor, Linda Leblanc, said she has long been pushing for the presentation to come to Paphos after it was held at various other towns around the island.

“I believe that medial cannabis has so many benefits, especially to those in chronic pain, and the research backs this up. The related controls should be strict, but I believes that medical cannabis should be more widely available to people that need it in Cyprus,” she said.

The presentation will be carried out by representatives of the University of Nicosia, a doctor, nursing staff and Green party MP, George Perdikis. Leblanc said that there is a huge interest from the public on the subject, adding that she has received numerous calls from the public asking for information, as members of their family are suffering with terminal cancer.

“This has happened since it was announced that the health ministry is finally moving ahead and has approved the use of medical cannabis for terminal cancer patients in pain.”

She added that people wishing to use the product must go through the proper channels and apply to their doctors, who will then apply on their behalf.

Canadian based company Tilray, which specialises in medical cannabis research and production, recently announced that it was cleared for distribution of cannabinoid formulations for patients in Cyprus.

According to BusinessWire, the company said it is working with Cyprus’ health ministry to import and distribute Tilray Drops, a medical cannabis extract product, at pharmacies and healthcare facilities throughout the country to patients with advanced cases of cancer who have authorisation to access medical cannabis products.

However, Leblanc said that Cyprus itself now has the potential to be a leader in Europe in this market, as it is the perfect crop for Cyprus and would grow easily here.

“It has a high value, especially if it’s organic and non-GMO, little water is required for it to grow and it heals,” she said.

She stressed that most medical cannabis is without THC, the hallucinogen, so when it is properly controlled and licensed, there’s no problem with the “drug” aspect, although there is some research that the entire plant, provides the best healing.

The presentation will take place at Geroskipou community hall on Thursday, May 25 at 6pm and will be held in Greek although a summary in English can be given.

This could be a massive revenue take for the country if managed correctly and could end up being supplied all over the world

This alone could transform the economy and would cause no harm to anyone as long as it was produced soley for prescription dispensation and didn't contain THC

There are some remarkable stories relating to the curative properties of cannabis oil and the risks people take to extract it, to be found on the internet. I wonder if 'Big Pharma' will shut this project down before it gets off the ground?

Previously Cyprus was a very large grower of Hemp (the mother plant) and major exporter. This is one of the few crops that every part of it can be used for a purpose, from medical to industrial (including houses, cars etc) so bring it on the sooner the better.

I assisted a couple of years ago in harvesting a trial crop in the Green Area by Nicosia. Most plants grew to 1.5 meters and some to over 2 meters with good seed and greenery yield. An added bonus is that other crops like Amaranths etc grow very well with hemp.

As for the "drug taking element" or narcotic/hallucinogenic versions, in my opinion they are in itself no worse than alcohol and a red herring flown by the pharmacy industry and governments for control purposes and financial gain.

Bring on the reinstatement of Hemp and Cannabis to everywhere not just Cyprus.

I have seen HEMP growing wild on some of the waste ground sites around Kato Paphos.

I assume that the cannabis will be on controlled farms. Also the factories to turn it into medicinal oil will be controlled.

I am in favour of this. The oil has some amazing medicinal properties.

Cannabis oil can be bought online from AmazonUK. Several varieties available including a medical oil which is dispensed via a pipette under the tongue once a day.
