Paphos People

Picked up a friend from Larnaca this afternoon. On the way back we were driving down the long straight bit of motorway before the sweeping "S" bend by the Nicosia turn to join the motorway to Limassol, when the truck a little way in front of me in the inside land, suddenly braked heavily. He had the benefit of being far enough ahead to see round the bend. When I got there I suddenly an old Cypriot man driving a pick up. The problem was he was in my lane driving straight at me!

Never seen that in Cyprus before!

I have - quite often.... coming home from the 5 to midnight shift and exiting near Ypsonas (Limassol). The locals in their double cabs often used my bit of the exit road as a cut through to the old refugee houses by the new Limassol General Hospital because it was a quicker route than going along the old Paphos to Limassol old road.

The first time, it gave me quite a shock but once I was aware of it, I always made sure I was going at a speed where I could stop if necessary, because sometimes they didn't put their lights on either!
