She is still a great ambassador to us Neil. I don't want her to "move over", as that could mean that whatsit Charles and his 3rd woman in his previous marriage being on the throne with him. Need to jump a generation to Prince William only.

No. I mean the UK with a hereditary monarchy. The queen has been a good monarch but that does not mean any of her progeny will be, or should be entitled to inherit.

Who would you prefer to lead the nation then .... Blair / Brown / Salmond / Sturgeon / Corbyn / Farage / Clegg / May / Cameron / Farron ?
I would leave Charlie to 'hug his trees' .... and promote William ( at least he has done military and medical work and seems to possess a modicum of common sense ).

Why does it have to be a politician? Let the people decide who they want to be their head and who they want as a PM.

I don't live in the U.K. So it is immaterial to me. I just don't think it should depend on an accident of birth.

These "Royal parasites" as you put it, do actually work, and also help to bring in a great deal of money into this country. Have you ever wondered why so many millions of foreign tourists head for Buckingham Palace every year? Besides, whilst we have a monarchy, we are far less likely to have a dictatorship. Personally, I admire The Queen immensely, and don't begrudge her one penny, especially as she has given her life to serving our country.

I don't reside there either, at present, but I do care for some relatives and friends who do.
Also, some 'accidents of birth' have occurred in all walks of life .... and I consider the current Monarchy to be more benign than a lot of them.

Much as I'm not a "royal" follower or indeed any great fan of the monarchy, I wouldn't want to be in Ma'am's shoes any day.

It's still a job at the end of the day and rather than going home after a long day at work, she's usually obligated to attending public ceremonies in the evening, including long and boring dinner parties and most likely with a load of people she's not particularly enamoured of either.

I'm afraid my face would give away exactly what I was thinking if I had to attend that little lot.

And friends ask me why I don't do video Skype - only calls ;)

Allow those who wish to celebrate and enjoy the monarchy birthday do so in peace.

If you don't agree with the royal line or moronarchy then start a new thread.
