Several years ago, it was the "norm" for people requiring knee and hip operations to seek their treatment across the water in Syria.... a few posted about it on CL at various times.

Obviously that option is most definitely out of the question given the situation there so it would be interesting to find out where people are going now, or if they're just relying on the local surgeons/clinics.

Interesting FF
Hope that there are clinics here though or a surgeon...who won,t rush straight for surgery because of money lol
As I would like surgery as a last resort not first resort
Also we ar private patients as I now don,t retire till next March arghhhh otherwise I would have gone to the General

In the uk...I would have just gone to see my GP
But here the GP,s will just send me straight to a surgeon or specialist, without examining me, which I might not need!

There is an Orthopedic Surgeon in the Evangelesmos who is supposedly very good and was recommended to me and I hope to make an appointment with him shortly. I also read that due to the Orthopedic Surgeons in the National Hospitals being oversubscribed that the Government is funding a scheme in that if you are prepared to pay €400 they will pay for treatment in a Private Hospital; maybe worth looking into.

Can I apply for this even though we are not entitled to free health care here until next March?
Many thanks

Hi Migmogs.

I don't honestly know but I wouldn't think so as I believe it is for people who are registered as far as I'm aware..

The surgeon at the Evangelesmos is supposed to one of the best and there is also a reputable one at the Blue Cross.

No.. to your question, My wife and I are not, entitled to free treatment in the local Hospital's, but my wife had an operation, in the Larnaca general, which we payed €2000 for, we were quoted 4 -4.500 euro for the same operation in the private sector, very happy with the Hospital...obviously you get what you pay for...but as long as the medical treatment was good, we wernt to bothered about the room/food etc.
