Yes but your insurance won't be valid in the occupied parts.
You can buy it at the border tough. Monthly as a minimum I believe.

Check with your rental company, most will not allow their cars to cross over a few do, but you will be charged extra for insurance.

The insurance at the crossing point is compulsry THIRD party Ins only. The minimum time is now three months. (unless that has changed). Nearly all hire companies will not allow there cars into the TRNC

There have also been posts in the past where people have taken hire cars to the North only to find that a previous hirer has incurred a motoring fine before they travelled back south and the new hirer has had the car confiscated.

All in all, take a hire car to the North seems not to be the best idea (although I am sure that some have done it without problems).

The only one I found who let you go to the North is A Petsas and Son at Larnaca airport, tel, 24643350 or 99476007. I spoke to the man on the desk who gave me his card and appears to be the area manager. They may have an office in Paphos? As regards the compulsory insurance I think it is ten Euros more for hire cars. I got 3 months for 55 Euros with Credit West Insurance at the Nicosia border, [email protected] You may be able to go to a broker and get a better deal near a crossing point. I have a feeling it is 35 Euros for hire care for a month. Hope this helps. :pint

Petsas has an office next door to Avis Budget at Paphos airport.

There must several companies that are OK to take their cars across - when we were over in the N once we saw plenty of red number plated cars from several different rental companies. The rental companies state that the insurance is not valid in the N, implying that you cannot drive across - but all you sign is that you understand the limited insurance cover I think?

Unfortunately many tourists dont realize that they cant take their rental across, no problem until something goes wrong, then the **** hits the fan.
