We got a bargain Mark - it is normally 350 Euros but we paid 200 Euros

It is a well organised tour and very safe. There were people there of all ages, some in groups and some singles. On our coach there was a couple with a very young baby.

Does anyone else find it bizarre to see the old next to the new - i.e the pyramids with the 'modern' vehicles in front. I wonder how many of our modern buildings will be in as good a shape as the pyramids in as many years time?

On first seeing the pyramids we were a little disappointed. I just imagined driving through the desert and then coming across them (just like the films)

Instead it felt like we driving along a road and they were at the end of it.......but then going round to the back of the pyramids and seeing the desert was what I expected to see.

The haggling there is quite off putting, but it is best to completely ignore them and not to even say 'No'. If you answer or speak to them, you have had it, but I think we got off pretty lightly. There are also some beggars/peddlars dressed as police to try to confuse you into taking your picture etc.

The museum was very good, it cost us an extra 20 Euros to get into the Royal Mummies section - expensive but it had to be done. Considering when you've seen one mummy you've seen them all. But a very good visit, the museum is massive.

The Papyrus factory was fascinating, and they had some lovely pictures there.

Had a trip to the Gold/Jewellery shop, which had some beautiful pieces.

The slums are awful, as you can see by the pictures and there are miles and miles of them.

We had a trip down the Nile, which again, wasn't what we were expecting. I was expecting it to be like the films, which banks of jungle either side, and some crocodiles or alligators. It was more like a luxury trip down the Embankment. Very good entertainment on board as well.

The trip to the market afterwards was horrendous, I have been to quite a few places, but never experienced so much 'in your face' as it was there.

Didn't like the market one bit, I would have loved to have just strolled around, but it wasn't possible. You couldn't breath without someone holding their hand out for money, or trying to sell you something.

The trip was organised brilliantly and not a dull or boring moment. It was a wonderful experience and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.

Came home exhausted but happy.

Hi, It looks like you had a fab trip. I would love to go but suffer from Colitis and need to be near a toilet. How long is the longest time you are from toilets. I know it is a strange question but it is really important to me. Also what time did you leave Paphos and get back. :

I would love to do when my parents come over in September and take them with us. I just know it is something we would al enjoy.

Thanks

Debbie

We did the trip 3 years ago. What struck me was that you see the pyramids and realise that they were once the superior race and then you see all the slums and wonder where it all went wrong.
A brilliant day out and a MUST DO !
Gary.

Great pictures Molly! Glad you enjoyed it

When we went in 2001 we were so mesmerised and shocked by the images all around us on the way to the pyramids that we forgot to take photos!

It is truly an experience, and one that I'm glad I did, but I wouldn't do it again. I thought that the tour guides had strange uniforms - it wasn't until later that I realised that it was an armed guard on the coach!

As for the toilets - I needed the loo in the Cairo museum. You could smell them well before seeing them, and I took one look and turned round and decided to hold on! If you are in any way fussy about public loos, then you aint seen nothin yet! Not even a 'hovering job'!!

I felt that as Christians we hold the middle east in some sort of reverence, but after my visit I felt very much let down, yes the pyramids and Sphynx are magnificent, but the poverty is so in your face.

I rememeber being so relieved when our ship docked in Limassol, back to normal civilisation!

Hi Debbie

We went at a good time to Egypt, it wasn't unbearable hot, so we didn't drink too much. The stops are pretty good, but also there was a toilet on the coach, which I dont think anyone even used.

We had lunch in a 5 star hotel, where the toilets where good and plenty of stops on the way. Hope this helps.

Hi Molly

I hope you're not gonna let Neil off so lightly! :huff You guys really crack me up!

Molly, I did the identical trip end of March 2005, a week before the nail bomb in Cairo. I have to admit that freaked me out when I heard it on the news back in the UK. Saying that it was a truly wonderful day out and would love to do it again. Did you go inside a pyramid? I bottled out too claustrophobic for me.

Glad you had a nice girly day out.
