Today an earthquake 7.8 hit China and offical figures report over 8,000 dead but U.N say this figure is nearer 31,000. It is on CNN as I type.
Chemical plant has blown up and many dead and trapped.

What a tragedy and our thoughts go out to them all.

Saw this on the news yesterday, Helen. A terrible tragedy. 900 students were trapped at the time I saw the news - it doesn't bear thinking about. I hope they can get them out, but I fear the worst for them.

The Far East has had a number of natural disasters recently and this one is obviously as bad as Burma's Cyclone.
How tragic, my thoughts are with them.

Jan :)

Indeed, but on the plus side at least the Chinese have the advantage of an efficient, co-ordinated disaster response, even though it has been hampered by the weather and at least one significant aftershock.

Latest stats suggest 15,000 dead with another 25,000 still trapped in the rubble.
