A strange question you may think, but from May till October we itch when we go to bed. It is like a prickly heat, we have tried the windows open, the windows closed, 1 sheet, no sheets, antihistamine tablets, plus ins, but we still itch at night. Does anyone else suffer from this and has anyone got a cure. :help:

Thank you, it would be great to get a good nights sleep in the summer. :please

Hi Kittencat. No, I don't have that problem. Is the itching all over, or localised? Maybe you are getting bitten by the tiny noseeums as you can't always see the evidence of a bite. They bite me on my fingers and drive me mad with the itching, but I can't see any red areas or lumps.

If that is the case, get an ARS machine out of Paps. It stopped them eating us in the night.

Failing that, I am stumped.

Hi ,
Debs, Yes I do have cats, 7 of them. I have had cats all my life and only itch in Cyprus, in the summer, at night, and so does my husband. If I get up and go downstairs the itching stops.

Verity, Thanks for your comments I will definately give that a try.

My husband started last night with his itching, somethimes antihistamen works.

Thankd for your replies though

Debbie

hi kittencat!
what antihistimine are you using! sometimes changing what you are using is effective. also make sure if you are using an antihistimine like piriton that you take it regularly during the day so your system is loaded up, if you are maybe only taking it at night it might not be as effective!
i take cetirizine 10mgs for hayfever/ prickly heat( whenabroad) , it is a once day tablet, which i think works great, maybe if it is a night time problem take it in the evening rather than the morning so you are getting the full effect from it overnight, and take it regularly so it stays in your system!
hope this will be helpful to you!!
NOTHING WORSE THAN AN ITCH!!!!!

Just wondering if this only affects at night and hits you both, is it your bed or bed clothes, different washing powder, conditioner yet i suppose that would be the same for your wearing clothes. Is there something in the room you are allergic to?

What a night, 5 mins after being in bed and I start itching, :banghead by the time my husband came up my skin was nearly bleeding where I had scratched it. After 10 mins of being in bed, he started. All I can explain it like is that a very fine dust power has been thrown over our body. Both our throats start to close up and we ended up by getting up. As soon as we go down stairs the itching stops. :madcow

We are moving into the other bedroom tonight, but can only do that for a few weeks as my parents are coming out for a month.

We had a huge amount of problem with damp in the room, and are wondering if that is the cause, We are also behind a field with carob trees which the goats use everyday, could it be that???

It happens every year from May till October but I just cant cope with it this year.

PLEASE HELP :help:

I would maybe go to the doctor to see if you are allergic to anything.

2 possibilies, maybe. If you both have an allergy then hoover your mattress twice a week cos the bedmites maybe whats getting you at this time of year, active little beggers :!:
Or if its a wooden bed, does it have any termites in it :?:
Try spraying the bedroom and shutting the doors and windows 1/2 hour or so before you go to bed, perhaps a nightly fumigation that way may help.......Maggie

Hi the house gets sprayed regularly as I worry about the pets bringing anything in. I do also hoover the bed. I'm getting neurotic now. Why does it only happen 5 months of the year, and affect the two of us, it's just like a mild form of prickly heat, it is no other room, just this one.

Perhaps the house is haunted in the summer, or perhaps I am losing the plot. It seems strange that no one else suffers with it, I though perhaps it maybe something to do with the humidity, but obviously not, now I am really worried. :catz4

Could it have anything to do with fungal spores from when there was a damp condition, that may be only surface at certain temperatures or times of the year?

Wish I could help - hope you are both soon itching to be together (in the nicest possible way) (tic)

I think you have hit the nail on the head Dawn. It has however, got the better of us and we have moved into the other room (unill my mom and dad arrive). The house is up for sale, but no has has set a foot over the door in 9 months and it's a lovelt little house.

Fingers and everything crossed please.

Debbie :please

Oh Debbie

Sorry to hear that. Have you had any investigations made? Could be that once you're not "itching" to get out of there - someone will turn up to buy it! Sending you lucky vibes x

Hi Kittenkat, have been reading the post, its seems clear to me, you have only scratched the surface of the problem... :pow ........... have had prickly heat in the past, awful....had a sunbed business, this itching was very common, customers of overdid it on the bed, caused by the heat more the light......
