For this Wednesdays walk we are staying close to home with a circular walk from Latchi taking in Polis, a small town in one of the most beautiful areas in Cyprus. The whole Polis area has been beautifully blessed by nature and combines the beauty of mountain, sea and plain. Unfortunately a few years ago nature was responsible for eroding the sand from the Polis beach causing destruction of some 200 yards of coastal walkway and part of our walk will lead us through this area. At the moment work has started for the new breakwaters from Latchi up to the Polis campsite, we'll see how they are getting on!!!.

As we walk through Polis town I'm sure you will be impressed by the old traditional buildings, both in the style of the Classical Revival and with beautiful wooden balconies. The centre of Polis with its restored stone buildings, is now a pedestrian area. The paved square with its cafes, bars and restaurants which we will be walking through is now a gathering place full of life from morning until night throughout the year. Moving on from the square we pass the excavation site of the 'city of gold' project and have time to have a quick look. This walk is mainly flat starting from the car park in Latchi on the left hand side, just before the Yialos Beach Grill House. A circular route firstly through Latchi centre moving down the back roads towards Polis. Through the centre of Polis and turning down into the Polis campsite through the avenue of fragrant eucalyptus trees. This is the only place in Cyprus where an eucalyptus forest meets the coast. At the beach area we turn onto the coastal path that will lead us back through Latchi Marina and the beach on the other side where our lunch venue is situated.

Beautiful views of the sea await as well as delving into the past and present of Polis. If you know this area well, why don't you come anyway for the exercise. Walking is the perfect way to see the best of the Polis area, so why don't you join us on Wednesday, I'm sure this taster will make you want to come back for more!!!!

Stay on afterwards for drink/lunch at the Yialos Beach Grill House, Latchi. It has a beautiful beach location with amazing views, offering a delicious lunch and a chance to further socialise with the other walkers.

LATCHI-POLIS 'SUN, SEA & SAND' CIRCULAR WALK (2 HRS)


Time: 09.15 for 09.30 start

Start from: Car Park on left just down from Yialos Beach Grill House, Latchi.

Forecast is showing hot and sunny, so sun hats might be advisable. Also recommend slapping on the sunscreen, strong walking boots/trainers and remember to bring plenty of drinking water with you.

Always looking for volunteers to lead a walk so if you have a favourite, share it with us and get in touch. Why don't you showcase your own village with all its hidden attractions that only people like yourself living there would know about. Looking for volunteer walk leaders for next few weeks with low level mainly flat walks.

Directions
From Paphos area- drive up the B7 Polis road, as you enter Polis turn left towards Latchi. Drive through Latchi, past Molos/Faros Restaurant on right, round the corner and just past the group of restaurants, there is a small car park on left hand side. Meet up there.


From Pegia area, drive up through Pegia towards Latchi. When you come to the T junction take the Left hand turn towards Latchi. On reaching Latchi follow above directions.
