Hi Folks
Ready, steady, lets go walking-Wednesday 5 Oct 2016
Following on from our success last year, due mostly to our leaders treating us to some memorable walks, we are starting a new season of weekly walks this Wednesday.
Previous walks included local areas, Yialia, Argaka, Akamis and further afield, Polemi for the tulips and the Five villages around Fyti area proved to be very popular. Hopefully we can retrace our steps to these favourites but also venturing into new areas.
Just to get you into the swing of walking again after the summer break, we have chosen the perfect walk for those who have been talking about getting more exercise but never got around to taking the plunge. Although this weeks walk is 2 hours in duration our walk leaders Ray and Sally assure me its a fairly easy walk and could be an ideal opportunity for you to take your first steps into making exercise a lifestyle choice. Along with the beautiful scenery you will encounter, medical benefits and chance to network with other walkers, you may be surprised at how much you enjoy it. Why don't you try it and see!!!
Drouseia is the location for this weeks walk.
Drouseia village stands 600 meters above sea level in a unique island region, right at the outskirts of the famous Akamas peninsula. Situated at the Laona plateau and only 27 km from the town of Paphos and 10 km from Polis, Drouseia is a lovely location with stunning seaside and mountain views. Due to its altitude, a cool breeze coming from the Akamas Peninsula refreshes the village. In fact, one legend suggests that the village derives its name from the Greek word “Drosia” meaning “cool and fresh”. The northern aspect of Droushia offers stunning views of the seaside towns of Latchi and Polis. The western aspect overlooks the Akamas peninsula and National Park. The eastern aspect overlooks the Troodos Mountains.
Ray and Sally describe the walk thus:
'We can meet at the Drouseia Heights Hotel, parking on the road outside the main entrance. The walk is about 4.5 miles and takes about two hours, plus half an hour or whatever for a water stop. There's a good spot with a picnic table half way for a water stop. No toilets en route unfortunately! The tracks are all concrete and easy walking, and there are just a couple of short descents and climbs, but nothing too taxing. The route takes us out of Drouseia, past the big rock formations towards Pittokoppos, and then back to Ineia and then return to Drouseia. There are several points for short cuts if anyone wants to finish early'.
This is a perfect opportunity for people new to Cyprus living in the Paphos/Polis area who want to start exercising. Why don't you come along and join us on Wednesday morning for a scenic walk around Drouseia area.
Stay on afterwards for drink/Lunch at a local venue and socialise with the other walkers.
