Chatting to snake George the other day and he was telling me he has got to find new premises. The owner of the land the Reptile Park is placed on wants the land back to build a house

He was saying he has contacted the Government to ask if a piece of land is available anywhere to relocate the park, but to date has not heard anything, he keeps hoping something will turn up.

What a hugh loss if the park closed and was lost forever, that is his fear at the moment.

For many years he has worked hard to protect the reptiles and educate people on their preservation in the wilderness. I remember many years ago he certainly changed how I perceived snakes and since then have grown to respect them.

As usual, Dave his helper gave me a baby snake to hold, it was only afterwards he told me it was a rear fanged stinger :eek but I didn't freak I really enjoyed it

If new premises can be found I hope in the future at one of our Taverna nights we can raise a few euros to help him with the start up costs.

Jan :)

Thanks for that Mark, will have to wait and see how he gets on with new premises and hopefully then PP can make a donation from collection/Taverna night.

Snake George has been talking of this need to relocate for at least 18 months, so I don't think he will be going in the next month or two.

When he does have a definite date for moving I am all for holding a raffle at the taverna club to support him but we should put it to the vote so that the members can decide whether that is what they all agree on.

His problem appears to be that people don't want his inmates in their vicinity. I can sort of understand that, although he keeps them secure. I have no problem with the snakes. It is the eight legged creatures that would spook me. I would be happy for him to relocate to Narnia as he would be nearer for me to yell for help!

The Monastery promised him a bit of land in Tala but that didn't happen for whatever reason. Then another place fell through up in Kathikas. I dont think money is the issue here its the location. He does a very good job educating some Cypriots as they tend to kill snakes just for the fun of it. I have needed the help of SG on a few occasions I cant think what will happen when he has to go the sanctuary is his life. Marj
