I was just wondering how many of the people on here who moan about foreign visitors(non EU at the moment) to UK getting medical treatment, have actually tried to get treated at a UK hospital.
I have a knee problem and was referred to an NHS hospital by my GP. I live in UK for 60% of the year.
Before I went to the hospital I received a letter stating that I needed to bring a list of current medication and any previous tests and scans...OK no problem.
I was also told to bring photo ID (Driving licence) and proof of residence in UK for at least 3 years.
Luckily I keep all my Council tax bills in a file so was able to do this.
I hope the people who flaunt the system are aware of this.
Yes! Cyprus should be making similar checks - many "permanent" residents (means here for more than 90 days continuous in any one visit in any one year) illegally use their UK issued EHIC card to
gain medications and treatments. These people should be registered (Yellow slips).
