Can anyone explain how the posts are counted please? I posted a reply on April 28th, this said number of posts 29. I then posted on May 4th and 7th but it still says 29 posts.
Thanks,
Sue :?

It should automatically add to your number each time you post. Unless there has been a problem with the site, or someone has deleted one or two of your posts, I don't know why your numbers didn't increase.

Just so that you know, if admin or the mods had removed any of your posts they would have pm'd you to tell you they had done it and why they had done it. So I don't think that is the problem.

It's a mystery to me.

This used to confuse me as well-- dont take much-- then I realised that all your back/earlier post's change when you make a new reply not just the one you have posted, so post 1 becomes whatever your latest post number is -- if that makes sence :? Marj

Yes, but surely if you post twice more it should have read 31 posts? Now I am confused. :?

It has confused me so much that I am off to bed now. I have to be up at 5 a.m. Work calls and all that.

Can someone read all the posts I missed last week and let me know if I have missed anything please? :smilielol

You post count should increase everytime you post, if this isn't happening, then we have a glitch in the system & Martin will need to have a look at it when he can, I will forward this to him to see what he thinks ok :D

Does this system not encourage members just to post anything that enters their head or just trivial comments so that they can up the numbers of postings and get promoted?

Yes Jan,
you will find a topic on page 22 ' The Honours System' [ I don't know how to transfer the topic to here ] This was well before you joined so you would not know about it, but it posed the same question.
I come down on the quality rather than quantity side of the debate, and the new Chat Thread is supposed to cater for the people who like to chat

That depends Jan,

On who the person is, what they have to post & why they think other members might want to read it :D

After all, what are forums for if not to pass on anything you may find interesting to fellow members :D I mean if you use a forum for 'Information only' then you'd only visit it if you were looking for something  If you use a forum for 'Chat Only' then that is more like MSN than a forum & some members won't visit at all

So it's best to try & keep a happy medium of both, so every member that joins can find what it is they're looking for & hope tell others, who in turn add more valuable informations for other members & so on :D :D

The ranking system was created for a bit of fun, as it says in the T&C's, nothing serious though but I'm sure some take it the wrong way but it doesn't stop them from posting :manic I will have to look at creating some further ranks though, as it seems some of our members are climbing the ladder a lot faster than I thought they would

I can assure you Jan I dont sit here thinking OH goody another few posts and I will be another run up the ladder -- no its not a race to see how quick you will get onto the next step half the time the next step passes you by without realising. I will pop into most threads and if I want a bit of banter I will visit the chat thread as thats what it was created for. Marj

I am not too keen on a honours system, but will go with the flow. I think it is a bit of fun, and it draws some light hearted banter when people become super stars or whatever. But the novelty does wear off and I don't think people really take much notice of it now.

You will always get people who contribute nothing but a smilie to a topic - but they would do that anyway, even without an honours system. It is just the way they post on all forums, not just PP.

I think a lot of people begin threads not for hell of it but to be part of the forum. For those in Uk still like me and many others it is perhaps nearest one can keep contact with all cyprus.I am sure when we move to cyprus my contribution to serious issues will evolve even greater.

I do hope that i am of some help but not all of the time and that is what forums are about.

Frank, you and Trisha are as valued as any members. If I wanted a purely informational forum I would look on Anglo Info. I want to feel that I am amongst friendly people who are not going to jump down my throat if my opinion differs from theirs. I live in Cyprus, but I can only post so much about it. When you and Trisha have been to the Last Castle in July you can give your view on the place from the perspective of a visitor. And you can tell us if you have discovered any other gems that we may not know about.

You ain't gonna please all of the people all of the time, but I don't think PP is doing too badly. Keep on contributing.

With the pair of you on that one.

I live in England (and looks like I will for quite a number of years - unless my fortune has a complete shift!) LOL

Reading the posts (and sometimes making a contribution to threads) makes me feel all the closer to Cyprus, and keeps my eventual goal - close in my mind and heart. Besides which, all the :heart people on here make me homesick for somewhere that isn't yet home (if that makes any sense whatsoever!!!)

I love looking at the foodie places and maybe planning where to go next time I visit. Looking at all the great pictures and watching you lot having a ball (and hoping that one day I'll be in the shot too).

Thanks for having me - sending loads of 8) vibes to all of you this beautiful, sunny saturday!

I agree with you and I was not trying to complain in any way at all. This is a very good forum and nice friendly folk on it as well.

Like you all it makes me feel nearer to the Island of my dreams in the sun. Keeps us up to date with all the news as well. Keep up the good work.

No worries Jan - I could never contribute to this as much as I would like :(

I find that I love PP because everyone can air their views and nobody gets the hump. I like other forums on CY too, but sometimes they can get a bit "hot" for me. The forums remind me a lot of love :heart :heart :heart When you first meet and start falling in love, you can be all over each other .... then, after a while, you tend to calm down a bit

Well for me - posting is a bit like that

I must admit i have not posted as much lately because i have worried that my posts are trivial which upsets me as i moved to this forum as i thought it was more lighthearted but still information could be found but the more i read some peoples posts it seems they want it to turn in to the other forum with all its rules and regs and no warmth in posts. Alex

Hi Dawn that was a lovely heartwarming post and I can totally relate to what you say, dreams do happen when the time is right and I am sure yours will one day.

Yes we are fortunate on this forum, friendly, helpful, informative and supportive when necessary, I think all the elements of a good forum long may it continue.

Jan :)

Alex your posts have never been trivial they have always been good and often amusing so keep posting, I'm sure everyone enjoys reading them. I often think mine are c.... but I don't worry about it because I don't always read every post myself, sometimes I just don't have the time and I am sure it is the same for most people.

Anyway if your posts ever become trivial I'll let you know.

Alex I do understand what you are saying but as long as no one is having a moan at you air- brush it, in this world we will always have people who think they know better....this is life.

What I do know is you have very loyal friends, in fact I was talking to one of them today.

Alex i enjoy your post you seem to be a person with a big heart and a huge love for your family
right from the start even when you were finding things tuff your love of life and Cyprus shone out.
I enjoy a bit of bannter . We all have various life styles, but i would like to think we can all give things to the site and perhaps friendships will carry on for some when they meet.I would for one hate it if this site was only imfo.

Read veritys sig....says it all.. we cannot have a wrinkly forum...we cannnot have a 18-30 forum.....we are what we are nd if folks don't like it there are those forums that don't have same type banter.Rest assured i enjoy a great banter but can also discuss the serious. What gets me i put my hands up to being guilt party and then they say yes you.I know i admitted it 6 off the best on my back side :smilielol :smilielol

GUYS, GUYS, GUYS. EVERYONE has something to contribute. We can't all wax lyrical about Cyprus all the time. And we can't just put up informational posts. As far as I am concerned, everyone has their value on PP - it was what drew me to agreeing to moderate on here.

If a serious post starts to turn jokey, or full of smilies, we have now found a solution in the form of the chat topic. That way those who like things to remain on a more serious level are appeased, as are those who like to take a more light-hearted approach.

I can dodge the barbed comments on other forums, but it is nicer not to have to. I love to hear what people who live here are doing on a day to day basis. What their concerns are, what their highs and lows are. It gives a true picture of life in Cyprus - and when you are living in the UK you do wonder what it would be like to live in another country. Well I did. I love to hear about the dreams of members who are in the UK, and the plans for the future - whether it includes moving here, or just holidaying here because they love the place.

I also love the diversity of age groups on PP, and the fact that the site isn't only geared around information for the retired sector. Nothing wrong with being of retirement age, but some of the information is different for people who are moving here to find work. That was what I battled with when we were thinking of making the move. I was constantly told that Cyprus was not the place to be if you hadn't got a serious income. Well, it worked for us, and it is working for others, too. I agree that it takes research and planning, but that isn't a bad thing. PP seems to offer information to cater for all situations.

You know what? Why should anyone let others put them off contributing? Why are your views not as relevant as anyone elses? As Frank says - read my signature. I wouldn't go out to deliberately offend anyone, but I have the right to my opinion. And so do all of you.

Alex, you are witty, good hearted, and you take no cr*p. Please tell me you aren't seriously worrying about what others think? I, for one, love your posts.

You know Verity i do worry what people think i honestly do but i get so mad when people try to change things this site has been my rock at times as when your awake at 3 in a morning and you post something you can bet your boots someone will have posted back some sense. And i am not sad saying the site has been my rock sometimes but i really do find i can write things down better than i could ever say them which is good for me being a chatter box . But without forums i for one would not have met some of the nicest people i know x I think when you move here and all settles down the shock can set in at the enormity of what you have done but you lot have always helped me keep it in perspective and stopped me going mad even though i already am a little strange

Alex,

Having read your concerns, I'd just like to say that everyone enjoys reading your posts & banter, no one has a bad word to say about you & everyone who's met you does like you, so you have no worry's on that score :there

I'm happy you feel that PP is a bedrock for you & I'm happy that our members are here to help each other out in times of need, I'm sorry if we seem a little strict at times with the rules but if we didn't have them, then PP wouldn't be the place it is that you love so much, we try to let people get on with as much as possible but every now & then we may have to step in & guide certain members or move certain posts, as we have 25 seperate forums for information based topics but everyone wants to post in the 1, so if we didn't move certain things around, it would soon become very congested & members wouldn't be able to find what it is they're looking for

One thing you need to remember is, you're a member of the PP family & no matter what happens, we'll always be here for you, as we are for everyone :D
